why LCI have friends new to Walleye fishing. Having a line counter helps me help them to keep it on the bottom by comparing how much line is out. Besides being a smooth quick retrieve this reel is well worth the money.

Good reelI use this reel to troll for Walleyes and northern pike. It's a good quality reel and is perfect for what we do. The 5500 Abu series had always been a good reel for the price.

Not what I was expectingI ordered this reel having only seen it online. It is a decent reel, but I was disappointed in how small the reel actually is. The handle is also poorly designed. It is not a good reel for larger fish or heavy lures. I would not buy this again. I like the line counter.

Awesome Trolling ReelThese reels rock, plain and simple. The all-metal construction and powerful carbon matrix drag system make these things nearly indestructible, and absolute tanks when it comes to cranking power. The only down side to these reels, is that the screws (external) holding the side covers on the reel tend to come loose after a good bit of use. Simply apply a thread locking product to these screws, and you will never have an issue with it! Excellent choice for a trolling reel.

5500LC Trolling Reelthis reel is perfect for my trolling needs. I mainly troll for walleye and smallmouth on the "Hollow" and it works really well. Has enough power to handle deep running cranks and the drag system is ideal. Nice for a change to be able to repeat my line back and lure depth consistently.

ABU Garcia ReelI have use my new reel a couple of times now and I love it my fishing buddy recommended this reel so I order it. It perform exactly as he said it should. He also told me as long as I bought from Cabela's I couldn't go wrong
Does this reel have a clicker to hear when fish is stripping line out

Is the line counter removable?
If so will the reel remain operational for medium to heavy catfishing?

The side cover is removable, so If you had the side plate of a regular 5500,then it could be done. There used to be conversion kits turning the regular 5500's into line counters.
These are for trolling. Yes,they will handle 15 lb and larger flatties when I troll.I've caught many catfish trolling but I don't target them.
Buying a linecounter reel would be overkill.I'd suggest a non line countered reel if planning on casting or tightlining big cats.
