Q&A
Part of the legendary Zara Spook family famous for its ''walk-the-dog'' action, Heddon's Super Spook Jr. features an internal rattle, super strong hardware and a very durable body construction. Jimmy Houston improved this legendary lure with a horizontal construction body design that is destined to catch the eyes of game fish and anglers. To fish this topwater legend, use a rhythmic, slack-line retrieve that makes the Zara walk from left to right and back and forth. Lures are equipped with two Excalibur Rotating Treble Freshwater Hooks.

Great baitGreat for early morning/ late afternoon bass. The action is amazing but I noticed the hooks were not very sharp. In fact, they were dull (noticed it right out of the package). May have to take a file and sharpen them before your next fishing trip.

Can't beat it.This thing accurately casts a country mile and brings action. You don't need to worry about hook-sets, because the explosive hit you get startles you so much it's just natural to jump.

New Favorite TopwaterI bought a spook several years ago for a trip to Minnesota for pike, but didn't use it very much. Came back and tried it for bass and caught several nice fish with incredible blowups. That lure was later stolen and I forgot to replace it until a couple weeks ago. Boy have I missed out. I've since caught my three biggest fish of the year, all with awesome strikes. I can't wait for using this at night this summer. If you're undecided about this lure, I highly recommend giving one a try.

Right out of the boxI was excited to receive my 2 super spooks. Wife an I went fishing the next day and had success on the second cast. With a little practice walking the dog seemed to excite the bass and they couldn't resist. Caught 5 in the first hr. we used them. Have had great results and a lot of fun the last 2 weeks. Bass blow up on them, and its off to the race. Great product and easy to use.

My first SpookI bought the bone colored Spook Jr. to learn how to use a stick bait. My reason to choose the Jr. size was because the ponds I get a chance to fish the most have smaller bass. That, and I don't know the reason to choose a regular Spook or a Jr.
I really believe it was a great choice to learn with, getting used to casting it and mainly retrieving it, specially different ways and speeds.
I got my first bite on my second or third cast with it, it was right at the shore, I was ready to yank it out of the water when it hit.
I also had the fish that has fought me the most on this same bait. He took it at the top, although it was not one of those super explosive bites, but then he took it all the way to the bottom of the pond, I had to pull him out of the vegetation at the bottom, he pulled, he jumped, pulled some more... and then, a yard away from the shore, he made a U-turn and got off the hook and all I was left was with some vegetation. By the looks from the jump, we was in the 3lb range, give or take a few ounces, but he fought more than some bigger fish I've caught.
So I will definitely will get some other colors and the regular size for this lure.

Nice movementHeddon turns out a high quality lure here. It's been too cold to use it much yet. But I tried it out and love the motion. Once the lake warms up and the fish begin top feeding, I expect the bass to come pounding on this one!
How do you choose weather to use a regular Sara Spook, or a Jr.? Or other variations for that matter?
Asked by: PhantomWolfX
Thank you for your inquiry. According to the manufacturer, the best way to determine is if the fish seems like they are wanting a smaller profile it may be good to go down to the Jr size. If they are short striking the Zara spook a lot of times I will go to the smaller Jr and they seem to hit it a little better.

I fish a variety of conditions for large mouth bass and was wondering which might be the best color scheme.
I live in florida
Asked by: Floridafisher
When selecting a lure color take a look at your surrounds (landscape and wildlife) to determine the color of lure to use. If the water is dark and murky (or stained) use bright and/or fluorescent colors that can draw the fish’s attention to the lure. If the water is clear, look around if the area and use colors which blend with the surrounds. If the area is rocky use a brown, tan, or a similar color. If there is grass and weeds then use more of the green colors. Each location will be different so try a good range of colors. Thank you for your question.

What's a good rod/reel/line combo for this type bait?
I fish from a canoe, seated close to the water, and use a 6' or 6'6" M trigger rod w/ a 6.4:1 ratio baitcaster. I usually use braid w/ a fluoro leader, or just braid. Sometimes 12lb mono. Any suggestions are welcome. I just ordered 2 of these and some Scum Frogs. Thanks.
Asked by: smallwater
Rod length of 6 or 61/2 should be fine out of a canoe Lb test of line can be argued for yrs. but using12 lb test might be fine in open water but around cover I"d use 50-65 lb. braid on a medium heavy or heavy action rod. Keep in mind not all rods are created equal.Good luck

what colour for smallmouth?
I fish smallies all the time but lost my only spook to a 6 pounder.... what couler is the best fish catcher?

Each fishing location will be different; even each trip to the same area might have different results so there isn’t really a “Best” color to use when fishing. One color may work better one time but not as well the next time you fish. So, when selecting a lure color take a look at your surrounds (landscape and wildlife) to determine the color of lure to use. If the water is clear, look around if the area and use colors which blend with the surrounds. If the area is rocky use a brown, tan, or a similar color. If there is grass and weeds then use more of the green colors. If the water is dark and murky (or stained) use bright and/or fluorescent colors that can draw the fish’s attention to the lure.
