What a bust of a fryerRecently purchased this fryer for Thanksgiving ‘18. Began the process of heating the peanut oil in the fryer. Once the green light indicated that the temperature was ideal, I lowered a 19lb turkey in the fryer.
The turkey cooked for less than ten minutes and the fryer completely shut off. I checked the plug connection, then the outlet and everything was fine but the fryer just quit on me!
Take about a last minut frenzy to now have to fine another way to cook this turkey with everything else (sides) ready to serve or near ready to serve. I had a old butterball fryer that could hold a 12lb turkey.. I had to cut both drumsticks off the 19 lb turkey and then squeeze the breast in the smaller fryer basket and fryer that.
I will never fryer another turkey in the larger butterball fryer ever again. I had a large family over for Thanksgiving and what a horrible expirence!!!s

Turkey never gets done on insideI bought this deep fryer to replace a cheap deep fryer I bought at big lots. I had to use the other one outside so if it was raining couldn't deep fry. This unit will not reach a high enough temperature to cook the inside of the turkey. The outside is burned and still raw on the inside. Called butterball and got no help with this so don't waste your money. You can fry chicken tenders but it's a very expensive item to use for French fries or chicken tenders.

Works greatI have the 20 lb version. Cooked a 10 lb turkey for thanksgiving in 45 minutes. Came out beautiful with a nice crispy skin, and cooked perfectly. Meat was juicy and was the best turkey I have ever had. The four of us at the table ate well over half of the bird as it was that good.
I used 100% peanut oil for frying. Takes nearly 3 gallons. After cooking the oil was filtered with a fine stainless screen mesh. The oil was placed back in its original 4.55 gal. plastic container and it looks like it was never used it was that clean after cooking the turkey. Nearly 3 gallons came out as well as the bird is not greasy inside.
Next item to cook will be a nice fresh 5 lb chicken. It will cook in nearly half the time and I am fully expecting it will be delicious as well.

Great Turkey DayAfter years of frying outdoors, I finally got to come inside and spend time with the family! No more trips out back to check the fryer or fighting the wind and weather and waiting over an hour for the oil to heat. Oil heated up in 40 mins, 12lb bird was done in 43 mins. Only complaint is the cord is very short (so no one trips on it) so your frying location must be near an outlet. Had mine on a bar/cafe table in the kitchen and it worked great. Much easier cleanup too. There's a spigot on the bottom to drain the oil. Also don't have worry about trying to keep the turkey upright on that flimsy aluminum rod. It just sits in the basket and cooks. When the turkey is done, the basket hangs on the side and drains. Great product

indoor turkey cookerI used peanut oil in this cooker and it didn't get to the required 350 degrees it takes to get the skin crisp,, I am going to try the oiless cooker or go back to my butane cooker,,
A 12 or 10 gauge cord should handle the load but usually the basic extension cord is 14 gauge or less which I would definitely not use.
