Description
Ruger GP100 Double-Action Revolver
Ruger® GP100® is a rugged and reliable double-action revolver that serves equally well for field carry in the outdoors, home defense, law enforcement, or target shooting. The GP100 revolver is built on a robust, medium/heavy frame of stainless steel. To withstand recoil from heavy 357 loads, a triple-locking cylinder is locked into the frame at the front, rear, and bottom so it stays aligned without getting sloppy over time. A full-length rib along the top of the barrel adds weight, and provides ample steel to dovetail the front sight, making the sight easily replaceable. The rear sight is fully adjustable for windage and elevation, and the factory ramp front sight is easily seen, while providing minimal interference when drawing the sidearm from a holster. (3" barrel model has a fixed rear sight and a pinned front sight.) The angle of the GP100's peg-style grip frame, and the recoil cushioning Hogue® Monogrip®, greatly absorb recoil and allow the shooter to stay on target while firing the revolver in double-action mode. A full-length ejector rod shroud puts extra weight out front to reduce muzzle flip, allowing for faster sight acquisition on follow up shots. The Ruger GP100 has a smooth double-action trigger pull, and a clean, crisp break in single-action. Stainless steel construction provides corrosion resistance, and low maintenance in the backcountry. The solid frame of the GP100 has no side plate, and the revolver disassembles into large subassemblies with no tools, aiding to ease of maintenance in the field. As with all Ruger Double-Action Revolvers, the GP100 features the patented Ruger transfer bar mechanism that provides an unparalleled measure of security against accidental discharge—the revolver can be dropped directly on its hammer and will not fire without the trigger being pulled all the way to the back. The Ruger GP100 Double-Action Revolver is solidly built sidearm that will serve a lifetime of hard use. Made in the USA.

DissatisfiedI bought this gp100 a few months ago and took it ti the range yesterday for the first time. I started by firing 14 rounds if blazer 38 specials. Gun fired fine and at 25 feet I was able to keep all shots in the 10 inch target. Very comfortable grip and weight and I like the sights. Trigger pull a bit long but ok. Then I switched to 357. I put in the 7 rounds and tried to cock the hammer. It would not pull all the way back and the trigger also would not pull all the way back. I opened and inspected and found one round would not go all the way into one of the chambers. I called over the range master to inspect and we tried multiple bullets in that cylinder. They did not go in properly. We tried putting in a 38 and that would go in ok and fire ok. Tried a second time and with effort the 357 would seat all the way in. Fired the seven rounds but then they would not eject. We needed to use a tamping rod to push out the shells and they came out hard. We, lose another 7 357 loads in and again the one chamber gave us difficulty. we had marked it with magic marker so we knew it was the same chamber. With effort it would seat all the way in...but again after firing needed a tamping rod to remove. I went back to 38's and they loaded, fired, and ejected with no issue. I am at this point assuming that one cylinder was not machined properly to accept the extra length of a 357. The gun is brand new and under warranty. We filled out three paperwork and sent it back to Ruger to test the specs. That was yesterday. Gun dealer estimated a couple weeks to get a response. I will try to update after it is returned. I would like to note that I own other Ruger guns (Ruger no 1 300 win mag rifle and Ruger Red label under over) and I love both those guns and have had them for many years. So I am disappointed in this experience so far with the go100.

Love the GP-100'sI bought my first GP-100 about 18 months ago. It was the 4.2 inch blued model. I put 3000 rounds through it in the first 7 months and it functioned perfectly. I liked it so much I purchased a 5 inch stainless version which has also been flawless and a pleasure to shoot. The weight of the GP's make the felt recoil very light. My aging eyes made it necessary to replace the black front sights with a fiber optic sights. The plunger system made it so simple to make the switch and took seconds to do. It's also easy to switch the grips back to the rubber with wood inserts if you like. As far as the stainless finish, if you have a blemish or errant brush stroke from the factory, it's easy to use some 2000 grit wet/dry sand paper to remove it. If you want a 357 mag that can handle a steady diet of 357's the GP-100 is a great choice. Ruger's customer service has a well deserved outstanding reputation should you need them.

Ruger's Best 357 Revolver EverI purchased the Match Champion around a year ago. Rarely does a product live to all the hype you see and read online, but the Match Champion will exceed your expectations.
To start with, if you took all the best features of the extremely popular (and sorely missed) Security Six and GP100 models and combined them and put it on steroids, you would have Match Champion.
The gun is very well balanced, fits like a glove, and has a remarkably smooth and crisp trigger pull. If you want to do the work and do an additional trigger job and change the trigger return and mainsprings to the Wolff Spring kit, you can get the SA pull down to 2lbs and the DA pull down to 6 lbs with 100% firing and no light strikes.
The gun is very accurate and includes a nice green optic front sight. Like all Rugers, the gun is built like a tank and can endlessly handle all the hottest 38 Special, 38+P, or 357 Magnum loads.
The Match Champion is simply a must have for anyone who likes 357 revolvers. While it may not be as glamorous and smooth as a Python, it is clearly a huge step forward for Ruger and is one of their best revolvers ever.

GP100 6"One of the best guns a person can buy, well wroth the money!
The gun was dead on right out of the box. Both SA and DD action was flawless. Vary easy to clean but I fired 500 rounds with out cleaning just to see how it would fire, AND still no problems!
Like I said one of the best, and nicest looking pistol I own!

Exceeded expectationsThe Match Champion version of the GP100 is very accurate and reliable. I purchased the adjustable sight version because I like to load my own 357's and am glad this version was available. I did put a different set of properly sized shims in it for the hammer spacing to be correct. Now that it's slicked up to my liking I can't help but think that this is my all time favorite handgun. Revolvers still get it done and the Match Champion is no exception. It's like the trigger rides on ball bearings. With the punch of a 357 magnum and the smoothness of a custom trigger. It's a no brainer, get em' while they last.
