Q&A
In tournament fishing, every second counts. Just one small feature of the Daiwa® Tatula® CT Baitcast Reel can buy you a good number of extra casts in a day's time. This compact, versatile reel comes in 4 speeds, from an 8.1:1 Xtra Hyper Speed retrieve to a 5.5:1 Power model, and each version is color-coded for instant identification. Keep your rigs on your casting deck, and you can change retrieve speed or tactics on the fly! But the real story behind the Tatula CT involves its palmability, strength, and superior castability. This reel is built on a rugged, compact 1-piece aluminum frame that firmly anchors its massive gearing. It fits easily in the hand, is smooth and sensitive, and with its Air Rotation spool and innovative T-Wing levelwind system, delivers unhindered line flow at reduced angles for the absolute maximum in casting distance and accuracy. 8-bearing (7+1) system with instant anti-reverse; Daiwa Magforce®-Z cast control; Ultimate Tournament Carbon Drag (UTD) with up to 13.2 lbs. max drag power; 90mm Swept Handle with weight-reducing cutouts, Soft Touch knobs, and anodized, color-coded ID plate.

EhI bought this reel back in May and it's not standing up to the day to day like I would like. I should have bought a shimano or abu like I planned.

Good reel for the moneyI bought the reel for a medium light rod to throw light jigs (1/16oz) for speckled trout. I have 10lb braid spooled, and was hoping to be able to throw the jig 50yds. That did not happen, but I can get it 30-40 yards without getting any backlash ( I was probably overly optimistic). The reel is real comfortable. I love the grippy texture of the Knobs. It fits well in my hand. I have spent a lot of time in the back yard trying to get to know the reel better. The only thing I am worried about is how it will stand up to the saltwater.

Great buy!Bought the Tatula CT, mounted it on a Daiwa Laguna 7" medium heavy rod. For less than $200 I have the best combo of all the others I own. The reel casts smooth and long. I mostly fish plastic worms with no weight and the Tatula works great but also works great with crankbaits. I will purchase another very soon.

Sweet Reel.Great reel for price. I have small hands and the original size just didn't fit my style. This narrower frame feels great. Same size spool as original, deeper and not as wide. Smaller T-Wing. Casts range of weights a mile, and for short pitches it can't be beat. Air Rotation is crazy smooth. Daiwa's are prolly smoothest I've ever used. I love my high end Abu Revo's, but for $130 it'll be hard to beat this reel.

EASIEST AND BEST BAITCASTER EVERI've been wanting to get into baitcasting, I have 2 Lews baitcasters and I really like them, then a guy in the industry who has 15+ years with baitcasters told me about this Tatula CT. I bought it and can't believe it. Its hands down the best baitcasting reel I've ever tried. 12lb Flouro and I'm throwing as hard as I can and can't get a birds nest. Super smooth, super strong. I called Diawa before I bought and asked them about the different Tatulas. The CT is just the compact version. Its PERFECT in my hand. I am going to buy 2 more of these. If you are a beginner don't buy another reel. Trust me! You pay for what you get, I've tried cheaper baitcasters and they are awful. This is the best bang for the buck. Buddy of mine told me at his shop they can't keep these in stock, they really are solid. I paired this up with a St. Croix Rage and its my go to setup now. You won't be disappointed!

Tatula CTThis is for the 8.1:1 reel. Right off the bat, it's fantastic. Casts and retrieves are buttery smooth. Solidly built, feels substantial but definitely smaller than the Tatula. Not as palmable some other low profile reels (Abu, Lews). For the money, it's a steal.
this reel is rated for 14 lb test. I have 7.3:1
i used lighter line and have much trouble with the reel casting, i think
I put 8 lb mono on it, would this make a big difference in the castability and
backlashes??
thanks much, Mark

Is this reel good for saltwater?
do a lot of bay fishing in SF. stripers and halibut mostly from shore.
Asked by: CraigAlvin65
Thank you for your inquiry. This reel may be used for saltwater fishing, but keep two things in mind: The maximum line capacity is 14 lbs. and remember to thoroughly rinse the reel out with fresh water at the end of each day that you take it out into the salt. I would also advise keeping it oiled.
