Holding up wellIt's been a couple of years since I last wrote about my reel. I've been fishing cats with it regularly and it works well. The one negative I have is with casting heavy baits. Sometimes I fish with big chunk of sucker and a 3 oz sinker. So probably a 4 oz load overall. The problem is that when holding down the button to cast, it won't hold that weight to keep it from slipping during the cast. So basically when I use that heavy of a bait I will use my non casting hand to pinch the line until I'm ready to release. Takes a bit of practice but works. Thats really the only knock I have. I should probably consider a round baitcaster for baits that large. Overall it's held up great and I don't baby it. I still want a 733 size built like the Omega, 808sw or with some of the Bullet technology for targeting smaller catfish.

Good reelI've had the previous version of this reel for about 6 years. I've caught a lot of catfish with it on the rivers in OK and a few redfish in LA. If I had to guess, I'd say it's caught close to 100 fish of various sizes 1-10lbs. It has never failed and always worked pretty well. I'll be honest and say I don't take very good care of it either. I often use it as a backup to my old school penn reels when I get an issue with backlash etc. and a primary reel for fishing punch bait. I'm actually surprised its held up as well as it did. I cast 1-3 oz of weight regularly and it will sail a bait across the river or lake. Just recently the drag stopped making a sound, but it still works perfectly. I can buy any reel I want, but I really enjoy fishing with this one. The only negative thing I can say is that the stock line's terrible on all these reels. Its worth the 6 bucks to re-spool it with berkely big game or something else. Hope this review helps someone. Its a great reel for the price.

Ehh...Nice real if it worked properly. Ours slips bad with every cast, it reels in fine, drag and alarm work. But that slip when casting destroys your launch.

Great ReelI bought one of these for my wife. We do a lot of inshore saltwater fishing, mainly redfish, black drum and speckled trout. So far the reel is holding up well and she loves it. She routinely catches redfish and drum in the 10-14 lb size and the reel has worked flawlessly. I was online to buy another one when I decided to write this review

Big snoopy rocksI bought this reel because it was stainless steel and felt like it would last. It survived a whole season with me going 3 times a week most of the time. I use it to throw soft plastics because I loathe baitcasters. This reel caught my pb at 8.4 lbs and many dinks. The only bad thing I can say about it is heavy, using it to chunk flukes and worms all day will test your elbow. However I can throw a worm with no weight a country mile with this thing. It's a great reel for the money.

It's okBought this for my young son to fish with me in the surf off of Atlantic Beach, NC. It lasted for about a year of heavy fishing...bought another one because no other spin cast reel I've bought for this purpose has even come close to lasting that long.
I do take care of it though, rinsing off with fresh water, oiling it, etc.
Why can't the top tier reel companies make a really good spin cast reel? Come on Shimano, Okuma, step up to the plate...you would own the market.
Is the 808 the same physical size as the standard 33? Or is it a bit oversized?
Asked by: Scottalso
The 808 is a bigger reel than the standard 33.

What would be a good rod to match with this for tossing lures after bass in Newport Harbor, maybe give me a choice of a “premium” rod and a “good” rod.
Thank you in advance for your helpfulness!

How to properly maintain and lubricate the 808 saltwater reel
Asked by: Chuck 878
Thank you for your question. To maintain and lubricate saltwater reels:
•Every so often while fishing, spray reels with fresh water or dunk in a bucket of fresh water, and gently wipe dry to remove excess salt buildup.
•After fishing, cut away the section of fishing line used that day. Then remove the reel from the rod, carefully rinse your reels with fresh water and wipe down with a cotton cloth.
