Small but EffectiveBought these baits based on reviews so I take writing a review seriously. It is a very light weight frog and does not give much distance with tackle that I use to control fish in weedy cover. The plastic is unusuall stuff but is pretty tough. A Northern did bite off one leg but most do not fish where there are Northern pike to do that. Basically I would recommend buying a bubble float with these to get casting distance unless you have a situation where using these with light tackle might work. Like stream smallmouth? They float well, and ride very well with a weedless hook. They even float with the short steel leaders I use to prevent cut off by Northern.
Why buy them and put up with the casting issues? I get about the best hookup to strike ratio with these over the larger frogs and top water frog baits are fun to use. As stated they are a tough lure and do last. With a bubble, like they use to cast fly rod lures with spinning equipment, they will work. I have now caught several bass on them and tend to hook the smaller 12-13" ones along with the larger ones.

Happy toadThese floating frog lures are AWESOME! They stay intact after numerous fish and keep producing healthy strikes! Cannot wait to get more!

Like the design, like the action but...My problem with all the Z-Man plastics is that they melt in the tackle box. They also ruin any other plastics they come in contact with.

One of a kind Topwater Frog! These Hard Leg Frogz are simply phenomenal. I've used many other topwater frogs/toads, like rib bit, zoom toad, and bronz eye, but the Z-Man frog is hands-down my favorite. It's true that it can flip over in the water if not rigged perfectly without a weighted hook, but that's Never stopped me from pulling them through thick pads and catching fish; up-side down or right-side up they kick up water and catch fish regardless. It's also true that they Will melt, but only if left in contact with other soft plastics. If you leave them in the original packaging they keep their shape and stay true.
The Biggest thing that sets these apart is the material that they're made of- Elaztech I believe it's called. The stuff is practically indestructible, and the only time I have to put a new one on is if my line weakens from fish and weeds and breaks off, I get bit off by a northern, or if I've caught so many fish on it that the hook just won't hold in place well enough any more (which happens after a day of catching fish on the same frog.)
The other thing about the material that sets it apart is that It FLOATS!!! NO other soft frog/toad that I know of can do that, and there's so many times when the fish hit as you pause it in the pads- especially after working it into an opening.
I turned one of my fishing buddies onto these and he ended up taking these and the Ned Rig to the Northwoods of WI. He caught countless smallmouth on maybe 2 or 3 Ned Rigs over 4 days. Then when they portaged to another lake that happened to have only largemouth, he ended up catching countless largemouth that day, on a single Hardlegz Frog.
Needless to say, we're both hooked on these. White is by far my favorite color, simply because it's easy for me to see in the water.. oh yeah, and it catches fish.
