A Bass Pro Exclusive!
The Winchester® Model 70® Sporter is the bolt-action rifle that all others are compared to. This model features a Grade II dark maple stock with cut checkering, and a Pachmayr® Decelerator® recoil pad. The Model 70 Sporter has the same controlled-round, claw-extractor as the "pre-'64" style, which grabs hold of the cartridge's rim shortly after it leaves the magazine and guides it to the chamber, regardless of the angle the rifle is being held, and prevents jams caused by double feeding. The large claw, Mauser-type extractor also provides maximum surface contact on the cartridge's rim for sure extraction of the spent casing; and a solid blade-type ejector reliably clears empty cases from the action. A 3-position safety allows the shooter to load or unload the Model 70 Sporter with the safety engaged in the mid position. The bolt is locked down with the safety fully to the rear, where it is extremely unlikely to accidently get knocked to the fire position when carrying the rifle in rugged terrain. Winchester's M.O.A.™ Trigger System has zero trigger "creep", and no "overtravel" after the firing pin has been released. The excellent trigger, combined with a hammer-forged, free-floated barrel, and forged steel receiver with a bedded integral recoil lug provide exceptional accuracy. my new rifleI purchased my Winchester 70 Sporter .308 from Bass Pro Shop in February 2018. I mounted a Nikon Prostaff 5 with BDC on a solid picatinny rail. It has been sighted in, approx. 80 rounds through it and it is sweet! I have cleaned it and fondled this rifle and it is beautiful, I have never handled a finer weapon in my life. The maple tiger striped stock is luscious eye candy. I have had dates I did not enjoy as much as handling and shooting this gun. Sleek smooth and when I saw it the first time I recognized the quality. The bolt, the grip. The checkering, the recoil pad!!! This is likely my last hunting rifle and I will be handing it down to my grandchildren some day very proudly. But not until I have broken it in and filled my freezer over and over, It shoots true, feels amazing upon my shoulder and I am honored to own this piece of craftsmanship! Amen!

This is the rifle that a hunter neededI just side this beauty today. And i feel in love with it. I have the 308 with a p 308 nikon scope. With only five shoots it was sight. I use the sierra ammo 168 grn and the rifle love it.

Outstanding RifleThis gun is simply unbelievable! It is very good looking and the Dark Maple looks incredible. I just sighted it in for the season and it is very accurate. My new favorite big game hunting rifle. Winchester has done a really great job with this gun.

Unique and very attractiveWaiting for the scope to arrive. If I can get MOD (minute of deer) out of it, I will be very happy. This is a really gorgeous gun. I hope the deer appreciate it.
I am wanting to buy this rifle , but in the color of the customer reviews (lighter maple). I see rifle listed as dark maple but the posted pics look lighter maple.. There aren't in stock in the store to go look at , can someone please clarify the color?

I purchased one of these and it is one of the prettiest guns I have ever seen. It is a light color, not dark. What is grade II maple exactly? Anything you can tell me about the stock is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for choosing Bass Pro Shops. Per the manufacturer the Grade II Maple stock is a higher grade of wood with more depth to the grain rather than the grade I that is a more plain stock.
