Does Its JobThis is the first fly vest I have used, I received it as a gift. I have nothing to compare it to, but from a beginner's standpoint, it does everything I need. It has plenty of pockets to store boxes, pliers, strike indicators, spools of tippet, and much more. The four square pockets on the bottom are perfect for tippet spools, leaders, split shot, and indicators. I use the larger chest pockets for fly boxes and miscellaneous things that I need easy access to (pliers, floatant, clippers). A small landing net will fit snugly in the large back pocket if you really need to move about. Lightweight and comfortable for full days. I may not be the nicest or fanciest vest out there, but for beginners who don't know any better and haven't been spoiled, this vest will do the trick.

First Vest in 40 YearsI purchased a Fly Fishing Vest in the early 70's and recently had to retire it. I went down to my local BPS and tried this vest on. Without hesitation, I purchased one. I took it home, rigged it up, and have been fishing with it ever since. It is lightweight and breathable, which is necessary in Florida. It is practical and very functional. I have been able to carry all of the gear I need to fly fish for an entire day. Experience and proper planning has also helped.

Good for lightweight... to 'get by'I ordered this online, so I was hopeful on the overall size and the size of its pockets. I recently got into fly fishing, so this is strictly for that. I have a vest I've used for years for when spin casting...that vest has more room for boxes and larger gear. As a fly fishing vest, I could probably 'get by' with this, but I'm usually putting some distance between my truck and I, so I load up on gear as well as a few snacks and maybe a beverage or two. This won't meet that need and would likely break down quickly over time due to overloading. The stitching looks good and its comfortable, but I can't get past the limitations in comparison to vests that are another 20 to 30 dollars. This one will go back and I'll step it up a notch. The flip down fly patch is less than convincing.....and being so high on the chest makes it hard to see as apposed to having the fly box down at stomach level.
