White River Fly Shop Dogwood Canyon Fly Reel
Our most affordable fly reel, the popular White River Fly Shop® Dogwood Canyon® Fly Reel, is more than just a pretty line holder. This is a full-featured fly fishing reel with performance elements you'd expect to find in more expensive models. Our large Rulon® disc drag delivers smooth braking performance at every turn, to cushion hard-charging fish and work them in to hand. That premier cast-aluminum construction has a strong, lightweight structure, and the V-cut spool seats line evenly, for easy stripping and proper drag operation.

Weird dragI do not normaly write reviews. I bought this reel about two weeks ago on the suggestion of the guy at the fly shop. He sold me on it and the one I tried out seemed ok but you never really know. I had a hard time finding the right drag settings after it was lined. I took it out and It seemed ok until I needed the drag. I hooked into a big fish and the drag kept slipping from strong to weak. It did eventually stay strong but, I do not think this should happen straight out of the box or ever. I do not know if I will have any more problems but I may take it back. I may give it another chance but as of right now I am not happy with it. It may just be something I have to play with and get use to but for a reel I paid 50 dollars for I should not too. I have five other reels that I have not had any drag problems with. Some are cheaper some more expensive but the drags all set the same.

Honest reviewI have lots of fly rods and I like to keep a reel on each one. I bought this for a rod I do not use much. I have fished with this a few times. First impression was, Hey not bad. Quickly picks up line. The drag works mostly well. Quiet while reeling. Click on line extract. Overall Not a bad reel. My biggest dislike. I take line out while pulling the rod back for back cast. This makes the line pull out at a 90 degree angle and pull against the spool support piece. This works zero percent. Stops the reel instantly and makes my back cast stop. Super annoying to me. I have learned to pull the line straight out and it works well. This is my only reel that does this so I have to relearn every time I use this one. Overall this is really not a bad real. If you used it all the time and did not pull at harsh angles, you would have a pretty good reel. The next question is would I recommend to a friend. Depends on the friend. I would recommend to the right person. Not based on someones ego that they are really good at fly fishing. Skill does not matter only how you use it.

JunkIf you are thinking about buying this reel. Do yourself a favorite and spend a little more and get something better. I got this as a combo kit and it's awful. The reel developed a grinding noise after one outing.
