White River Fly Shop Classic Fly Reel
Time-honored styling meets state-of-the-art manufacturing and materials in our beautiful White River Fly Shop® Classic Fly Reel. Although it's a traditionally styled click-pawl fly reel, you'll find the Classic to be far more rugged than vintage reels. Crafted of cold-forged 6061 T6 aluminum and fully machined, it has a solid, permanent feel in the hand despite its light weight. The 4/5 and 5/6 models feature our adjustable/reversible click pawl system, designed to provide perfect check tension with a minimum of weight. The UL model provides perfect click tension without need for an adjustment. All said, these reels produce an incredibly satisfying sound when confronted with a running fish, and represents some of the best values in fly fishing.

Nice Minimalist ReelI bought the UL for use with my 2wt glass rod. It’s a delightful little minimalist reel that appears to be a descendant of the old BFR RimFlys that I love so much. The drag is not strong - it could use a beefier spring - but then it is designed solely to keep the line from snarling when stripping or working a fish. You can use your thumb on the outer rim of the spool to create extra drag if you have to work a strong fish. Love it!

Great classic looks!I bout the 45 at our local cabelas and have used it for trout and panfish. The classic design is what drew my eye to it and I love a good click pawl reel. Also like the solid back without the porting and the color is very retro. Looks good on my bamboo and glass rods as well. I do agree that a counterbalance would smooth it out when stripping line or reeling but I'll probably try to rug one up. All in all nice reel good sound and does its job.

Nice looking line holderI purchased the 5/6 a while back and have used it a few times. It fit a whole 100 yards of 20 pound backing, and a WF6F line on top of that. It's a bit heavier than some of my similar click-pawl reels, but if you have a 6wt fiberglass rod that might not be a bad thing. I like the fact that it is closed on one side instead of ported -- keeps grit and sand out of the pawls.
The drag isn't very strong, but that is to be expected from a click-pawl reel. No counterweight, so it will wobble a bit if you strip line out fast. No biggie for me. I use this for bass fishing from a raft, so it is fine. I don't really need the drag.

WHAT DRAG???????I bought this on Sunday and fished it today-Tuesday. A 12" brown will peel the line off this reel with the drag fully engaged. There may be a FEW Ounces of drag increase from start. The reel is well built and looks nice, but the drag for all intents and purposes is fairly useless. The reel is CL45. Also, the lack of a counter balance
causes a definite wobble when stripping line to extend the cast.
