Description
The Waterworks-Lamson Speedster® Fly Reel is a super-high retrieve rate reel with a narrower-than-usual spool, an inboard mounted handle, and an outer diameter significantly larger than Lamson's highest performing reels. A narrow spool prevents line barreling; the added circumference and inboard handle improve retrieve rate. Features include a maintenance-free drag system and classic Waterworks-Lamson styling. Machined-aluminum and stainless steel with a hard Alox® finish. Made in USA.

The name says it allI purchased the Speedster 3.5 2 years ago and have been impressed since the first day. I paired it with an 8wt for saltwater fishing in south Florida. It's super light for its size and the large arbor allows for very fast line retrieval. The sealed drag is very smooth and has great start up inertia. The drag has never failed even after being submerged in salt. It has handled snook, redfish, and small tarpon flawlessly. Great purchase.

Finally a narrower spoolI own a lot of Lamson reels but my biggest beef was that the reels are wide and the line tends to get bunched up. I moved to Sage 4200 series and like them alot but these new, narrower Speedsters are outstanding. Very large diameter and the same great Lamson drag.

Speedster 2I bought the Speedster 2 for use with my various 5 wt. rods. I mostly fish for trout in rivers, lakes and small streams. It's a finely made fly reel, the quality is superb. The reel's circumference is a bit wider than my more traditional 4-5-6 wt. fly reels, (it is a large arbor reel after all) but it is not freakishly large. I also enjoy the Speedster's subdued "clicker" sound. All in all, I'd buy another Speedster, without a second thought, if/when the time comes where I need another reel for one of my other rods.
If you are fishing vintage fiberglass, you might want to consider the reel's weight. It is very light and might be too light for the older classic fiberglass rods. Just something to be aware of and something that can be adjusted via backing and line.

GREAT REELThis has to be one of the best reels on the market. I never have to worry about sand or dirt getting into the gearing and messing up the line retrieval…along with the price…great product!

Lamson ReelsLamson did it again. The Speedster is another outstanding reel. I have 7 other lamson reels and would not recommend any other brand. If you are looking to purchase a new reel this is the one.
How do I convert the Lamson speedster from Left to right handed retrieve?

Thank you for choosing Bass Pro Shops. The link below will take you to a Lamson instructional video on switching the retrieve.
