Good Scope-Great SeviceThis was my first spotting scope purchase. I have used it to help sight in my rifle, show my son how to read trace, glass for deer, and evaluate sniper operations (I am a Special Operations Trainer). The scope held up well to regular wear for hunting purposes. However, the internals broke inside while climbing mountains in a HMMWV. Often climbing over a sea of 12” dessert rocks causing significant bumps and jarring. Vortex sent me an over night shipping label and will return the item over night when it is fixed or replaced. The service representative was super responsive. Thank you Vortex for your awesome service and please tell the service representative for Service Request 12565 she is awesome!!

Tight eye piece coverI recently bought the spotting scope with the angled eye piece. The scope works well except for the dust cover for the eye piece. It binds when being removed to the point it feels like it was cross threaded. After examining the cover a seam from the manufacturing is the source of the problem and can be fixed with a little sanding to smooth it off.

Great quality and durabilityI have had this scope for over a year and a half, and every time I use it amazes me. The optics are very clear and with the 80 mm objective lens, the picture is bright. The zoom does darken the image but that is expected with almost any spotting scope. Great quality for the price and a lifetime warranty! You can never go wrong with buying anything made by Vortex.

Great valueI have been using my vortex diamond back spotter for a few months now and have found it to be on par with some $4-600 scopes I've used. Very light and clear glass, helped me get my bull and find an antelope I shot last season!

AwesomeI've had other spotting scopes in the past but nothing compares to Vortex optics .I carry my vortex diamondback 20-60x80 everywhere its great for those long range shed hunting days. Plus the warranty is the best in the industry. Keep up the great work!!!
Does this scope mount on a 1/4” 20 thread, standard size tripod mount?
Asked by: Steve scope
Thank you for your question. Per the manufacturer, the Vortex Optics Diamondback Spotting Scope does have a 1/4x20 threaded hole in the bottom of the foot that can be used to attach it to a tripod quick release plate.

I am moving to a home with magnificent views of the Superstition Mountains in the Phoenix area. I estimate they are about three miles away. I want a scope that will allow me to view sheep, mountain lion, etc on the mountain from my back yard. What do you?

Thanks for the question! I would recommend looking at our Razor HD 27-60x85 Spotting Scope!

Instead of a tripod use looking down in the eyepiece the entire unit would be turned 90° to be able to be attached to the bench mount rod, turned 90° will this affect viewing the target? Does it work with a cell phone attachment on the eye piece?
Asked by: Jackshooter
Turning it at 90 degrees would not affect the view of the target and you can use a cell phone attachment like a Phone Skope.

Looking for a spotting scope to watch whales, dolphins and birds from a beach house. Need a rotational tripod attachment.
Asked by: Cheryl Clayton
Most tripods will have a head that would rotate, if you are looking for a tripod I recommend looking at the Vortex Pro GT tripod.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of the angled scope compaired to the straight
Asked by: h20fouler
Thank you for your inquiry. It is mostly just a matter of personal preference; however, here is a short list of some of the differences:
Angled: Better for taller people since the eyepiece is angled upwards, also better if you are tracking upwards (ie: birds in trees) and it also has a convenient rotating eye piece so you can look through it from different angles if necessary.
Straight: Rotates more easily in confined spaces, better for shorter people since the eye piece is not angled upwards and it's good if you're tracking animals downfield or from a ridgeline.
