Vortex Diamondback vs Nikon Monarch BinocularsI compared the Vortex Diamondback to my old Nikon Monarch binoculars. The construction of the Diamondbacks is outstanding and they appear very rugged. The attached end covers is a nice feature. When I compare the 2 binoculars head to head, (i.e., looking at the same objects at the same distances) the Monarchs provide a brighter crisper image compared to the Diamondbacks. Also, when I close down the Diamondbacks to fit my eyes, it shrinks to a much smaller field of view compared to the Monarchs. I am not disappointed in the Diamondback because they are a spare pair that I carry in my car for general viewing. However, they would not replace my Monarchs on a hunting trip.

Not for meAfter years of using Nikon 8x40 pro staffs I decided to go with a lighter and more powerful set of binoculars. The reviews were good on these and I thought they would work. They were 15 oz. and my Nikon’s were 32 oz. and these were 10 power. I only used them once scouting for elk. They didn’t gather light well. I had to continually focus them and I couldn’t find the sweet spot when you hinge them down to fit your eyes. I sent them back and went back to my old Nikons.

Diamondback 10x42I love my diamondback binoculars. Vortex makes high quality optics. Great glass, very clear.
Can't wait to take them elk hunting this fall.

Very DisappointedI waited over a year before deciding on these 10x32 based off of the mid/compact size, large field of view for the given magnification, and all of the positive reviews from other owners. The problem is with focus and clarity. These are extremely finicky when you are trying to get them focused and once you have them focused they are not clear. There seems to be some haze that prevents you from being able to see detail in the image. At close ranges <50 yards, they seem okay but anything beyond that leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps my experience is an isolated case and I certainly don't like to leave negative feedback unless it is warranted and in this case I am simply sharing information based on the product that I purchased.

Perfect for aircraft spottersI went into Cabela’s with a different binocular in mind, but after looking through a few, these Diamondbacks were the clear choice for their clarity, brightness and ergonomics. The design feels solid but not too heavy.
I’ve used more powerful optics and it’s harder to find and follow the aircraft, then hand shake comes in. These 8x42s are perfect. We went to a local spotting area after buying these and after several hours of use, they stayed comfortable in hand, made it easy to focus in on and follow the aircraft, and easy to identify aircraft landing on runways on the other side of the field. Handshake isn’t even an issue at this magnification. As dusk set in, these made Diamondbacks still performed well in lower light conditions. The field lights looked beautiful through these, but I could still see aircraft details despite the dwindling light.
Focus stays sharp and it’s easy to refocus with the knob. Once you set the diopter correction, it stays proper and you’re not fiddling with it constantly at different distances.
I even focused in on the moon and was surprised at the details I could identify despite such a low power.
These are going be perfect for travel as well as local use. I couldn’t be more delighted with them so I highly recommend the Vortex Diamondback 8x42.

diopter disasterBought these to replace 6x30 Leupold Yosemite which leaked. Looking for compact reliable glass for hunting. Size, weight, and clarity were good. Display model worked fine. I was given a factory sealed new pair. Opened package and followed instructions on set up. Focus ring smooth, but diopter ring seized up. Impossible to adjust diopter. Need reliable product that performs when I need it. I enjoy hours hunting, and my gear contributes to this enjoyment. If a defective finished product makes it to pack, it tells me there are Quality Control issues. I don't need failure when afield. Returned Product.

DisappointedBought a pair a little over a year ago. Looked good in the store, but in the field the focus and clarity was disappointing. The bottom lens cover fell off when it got cold and the lens coating started to peel after a few times of use. These were the first Vortex products I've bought. Was looking for a light, compact binoculars for hunting. I'm returning mine and will keep looking.
Thank you for choosing Bass Pro Shops. These come with a neck strap and a case.
