Ugly IceThis is exactly what I wanted. The pole is for my son. Wanted something small and more or less indestructible, Which is the ugly stik brand. We have used it several time and it is great. It is an ice fishing pole, but good quality. I find the "kids" poles tend to be cheesy.

AwesomeBought this combo a few weeks ago haven’t used it for ice fishing yet but have on a few small streams. Love it for getting into small brush covered areas. Ugly stick is great, caught a few brook trout in northwest Pa. can’t wait to get some ice to use it on.

Big improvenyWhen I put out on the winter ice my first year out I had a sawn hockey stick butt with a broken fly rod tip glued into the end.... line was stored on two pegs mounted on the handle and it worked - and I worked !!!!
Today’s jiggin rod is much nicer and it’s much more productive. The outfit has a fine reel and the blank and guides infinitely tougher than anything out there....trout and perch are easier on lighter lines and sensitive tips !!!

guides/eyelets to small!!!I was expecting a rod with large guides being designated an ice fishing rod, small guides ice up and are problematic while fishing in freezing temperatures.

Great Combo for the moneyI've had the UL for a few years and its my favorite rod to fish with, awesome sensitivity for perch, crappie and other panfish.... fun to catch walleye on as well.... and its got the backbone just in case you hook into an unexpected hog... caught a few 32"+ channel cats (15+ lbs) on it and I was concerned they'd break the rod but it iced em too...

Love this brand!I think the Ugly Stick rod with the Shakespeare reel is the best value! Great quality rod and reel combo! The reel is super smooth, and the rod is sturdy. These little ice fishing rods are great to take not just ice fishing. We use them at high elevation lakes when trails can be dense with trees, and there is little casting room around you.
