Laces Break Every 2 Months1st set of shoe laces broke after 2 months of day to day use at a desk job. The replacement laces from North Face just broke after 2 months (They were also excessively long so I had to triple knot them). 3rd set is on its way. The metal eyelets that the laces travel through have a sharp edge that causes the lace sheathing to wear down and eventually break. The edges should have a larger radius. The laces of my previous pair of North Face shoe lasted the life of the shoe (4 - 5 years). They did not have metal eyelets. Josh from Customer Service: "Good Morning, thank you for contacting The North Face, Shoelace's, such as the ones we use in our hiking shoes, are just like a piece of kermantle accessory cord, with a inner nylon woven core and a nylon sheath. As with any piece of cord, especially one that is used every day, they will wear out from use." I guess it's perfectly acceptable for laces to last 2 months at a desk job with a hiking shoe.

After lots of hiking in this shoe, I am a fan.I have hiked in these shoes from day one. My hikes have included cold weather, hot weather, flat terrain, water crossings, rocky terrain, and very steep terrain. I have owned them for about 6 months. I used to wear a Merrill Moab Waterproof, and these are superior. First, you should be aware that these have very little cushion in them, I was surprised to see that and it turned me off at first, until I started to wear them. I was shocked to find them very comfortable despite the lack of padding. The best compliment I can give a hiking shoe is that they simply vanish, meaning you forget about them while you're wearing them because they just work perfectly. They are lighter than the Merrills, which is a big advantage. They are also very tough, I have not been gentle on them and they are holding up like a champ. My main draw to them was the metal lace loops, something you don't find on many low rise hiking shoes. The GoreTex is fantastic, waded through a stream recently, socks were bone dry, even after I stood in the water for a while. I have also done many high temperature hikes in them, my feet stay cool (good socks also help). Bottom line, I would buy these again and I have no problem telling a friend or family to do the same.

Great winter shoeI have worn these shoes for some years and have been totally satisfied. I've worn them with thick socks. I recently wore them every day on a trip to Norway, on compacted snow and on ice. They kept me warm and dry, and had great traction. I hardly needed my insulated boots.

Decent shoe overall, little short on support/cushioningI was drawn in by the shoe's looks and I know they're very popular in general. I was disappointed at how wide and even long they were and I ordered my normal size. They didn't feel solid enough for me, nor did they have enough cushioning. I purchased them for hiking, but I think they're a better casual shoe. Beautiful design, though.

Favorite hiking shoes, but one small problemThese are my second pair of Hedgehogs, the first pair I had for about two years before the toe rubber started coming undone. These are updated and have the stitching further up on the toe with durable rubber going higher up - totally fixing the issue. The one problem I have with these shoes is that the shape of them is a too pinched where the Achille's tendon touches the shoe. The rest of the shoe looks brand new, but there are already holes worn into this area. Plus, they have started to give up support in the area, leading to mild tendinitis if I go on long hikes with them. I wish the shape was a little less pinched in this area and more durable there - although to be fair, my tendons are probably thicker than average. If you don't have thick tendons - I would recommend these highly.
