Keep it out of the salt!If you're planning on buying the 12wt version, I can tell you right now that this is not the reel you're looking for if you're trying to stop a 60lb Giant Trevally or any other tough saltwater species. Although I've landed my fare share of big GTs on this reel, I've also lost about a dozen in the 50-60lb range, and lost what probably would've been the only wahoo ever hooked and landed on fly from shore. It doesn't have the stopping power to prevent exceptionally large saltwater species from finding some type of structure and busting you off. The 12wt version only has about 12lbs of drag at best...I have 8 wt reels with more stopping power. Also needs constant care in the saltwater, and a major overhaul after about a week of fishing. The only advantage is its line holding capacity. Forget traditional backing and use 100lbs braid...you can get about 500 yards of it on the 12wt version of this reel. Once the reel seized up after about 3 months of putting it through every extreme possible, I invested in a much more proven brand. However, if you're swing casting flies to steelhead or salmon on a spey rod, then this is the reel for you. Keep this reel in fresh water environments. Tight lines.

Fantastic ReelLet me start out with WOW!
I bought the TFO BVK reel in 5wt to go with a TFO BVK 5wt rod I purchased recently, and love this combination. The drag is silky smooth and the balance and feel of the combination is perfect.
Home for me is Central Florida and in the past two weekends this outfit has provided me with plenty of Bass and Bluegill action.
Makes a day of fly fishing relaxing as I'm not as tired as I used to be working a cheaper 5wt outfit all day.
Also, the staff at BPS Orlando is great! They always give great advice, and go the extra mile in customer satisfaction.
raised crappie fishing with a fly rod now looking for a reel to match an 11 ft crappie rod what are your thoughts

Not sure why you're looking at a BVK reel for a crappie reel. This would be the Rolls Royce of crappie reels given the price tag. I'd stop by a store and find a reel that balances out your 11ft rod at the handle...never been to a store that didn't mind you bringing your own personal rod in to do this. If you can balance the rod at the handle on one finger then you have a balanced outfit. Otherwise, I recommend going cheap on a crappie reel, and looking at something like a dogwood canyon reel.
