Snook on the fly

The places they live, how they attack bait and their style of fighting make snook an ideal quarry for fly anglers of all experience levels. The snook’s affinity for structure mean that you can target them effectively by blind casting to docks, points on mangrove channels, deeper holes in the flats, or the periphery of dock lights at night. With the help of a flats skiff and a buddy who is proficient with a push pole, sight casting flies to line siders is perhaps one of skinny water’s greatest thrills. Snook season is just one of the great times of year to fly fish. A couple of other great opportunities are in the summer time—when snook stack up in the surf—and the mullet runs in the spring and fall.
