Model 327 TRR8I bought the Model 327 last month at my local store. It's a beautiful shooting gun! Great trigger and sights. I loved shooting it both times before the barrel came loose. I'm now waiting for S & W to repair it. Warranty repair waits are 5 weeks.... As long as the barrel stays tight, this will be a really fun target and woods gun.

Model 627 PC - Worth the premiumI bought the Model 627 Performance Center (.357 Magnum x 8 rounds):
Fit and finish on wood and metal are as expected - impeccable. When picking it up, it's obvious that this is a finely engineered, expertly made, high quality firearm. Being of all stainless steel construction, it also feels a bit heavy, but the short barrel and great balance allow quick target acquisition in spite of the weight. That weight also slows down recoil, making even full power magnum loads manageable. Holding eight rounds in the cylinder is nice too!
About the trigger... Double action is a little heavy but very smooth, and it gets even better with use. Just squeeze straight through to pull off fast DA shots. If you slow down the press a bit, you can feel where the cylinder locks up, then use the remaining pull almost like single action release. This technique makes double-action shooting more accurate. If you manually cock the hammer to take advantage of single-action mode, your reward is one of the sweetest SA pulls you'll find anywhere. It's very light, but not too light, you just feel a click but don't perceive any motion when it releases the hammer. Perfect!
Things to know, call them design considerations:
- Accuracy is excellent, but the short sight radius means you have to use your sighting and trigger control skills, and follow through on your shots.
- ..38 Special loads feel like powder puffs. They're almost unnoticeable on the wrist, and are easier on ears and wallet. Specials will not hit the same place on your target as the much faster magnums, so the adjustable sights are very welcome.
- The cylinder is cut for moon clips, which make reloading the cylinder much quicker. Moon clips aren't absolutely necessary, just a better way to reload. Three are included to get you started if want to use them.
- Holsters are available but not as common. However, once you get one, any N-frame with similar length barrel will fit. I have an inside-the-waistband holster that works far better than expected. I'm just saying that giant cylinder doesn't get in the way as much as you'd think, and it's reasonable to carry.
If there were anything to ding, I'd say the wood grip. It does look great, it's very well made and durable. However, those finger grooves will likely only be comfortable for those with very wide fingers. It still works, and the rear contour that rides the palm is great, but it would be better with a smooth front side. It's also easy to change, so I'd only ding half a star for that.
Part of a review is a recommendation, so here's mine:
If you're in the market for a high-end revolver like this, you likely already have a fair amount of shooting experience. You'll be very happy! If you're teaching someone new, I'd opt for a .22 of some sort, but this will work well. Load with .38's and teach safely. If you're looking for your own first handgun, it's a good one but I'd recommend something with lighter weight and a longer barrel to start out.
S&W builds excellent, high quality products, and they stand behind their products. Performance Center models are even better!

Must haveAll you could want from a 44 modest recoil crisp trigger in single as well as double action only a slight difference in price from other marketed 44 but also know this was precisely tuned and is very noticeable when fired

Bone CollectorFinally located an in stock 460 Bone collector at my local Cabelas, must be one of the last available. Very sweet piece, I purchased this to go with my PC Hunter, however, I will never shoot this one.

Fun to shoot!I waited over a year to find the PC Hunter in stock at my local Cabelas store. Very accurate revolver and the muzzle break really tames the kick of a .44. The scope that came with the package is basically junk. Bottom line, excellent purchase.

Smith & WessonGreat gun, scope is just ok as a red dot, no cross hairs though. Will most likely replace for better performance. Gun is great to shoot and very accurate. wish Smith & Wesson would go back to some of their old fashion machining practices with ammo inserting flush into the cylinder and smaller gaps. Overall very satisfied though.

Incredible GunI wasn't really looking for another gun at Cabelas. I saw this new .44 magnum in the case and had to see it up close. It fit great in my hands and the weight was perfect. I bought it that day and have fired 80 bullets thru it. Shoots awesome. Handles great. Only minor negative is the cheap scope on it. I will get a much better scope on if for deer season. I still rated it 5 stars because of the overall performance of the gun.
