Shimano Ultegra XTD Surf Spinning Reel
For the serious surf caster, distance matters, and the Shimano® Ultegra® XTD Surf Spinning Reel delivers. It's specifically designed to maximize casting distance, without relinquishing full power and control while you're hooking and landing your dinner. The 14000 model's inline spool position and Super Slow Oscillation, which lays an amazing 50 wraps of line per cycle, combine to deliver free-running, ultra-long casts that arc smoothly toward the horizon; the smaller 5500 model offers Slow Oscillation, assuring precision line lay with plenty of distance as well. Both reels feature Shimano's proven X-Ship technology for maximum gear durability no matter how heavy the load, plus the performance features surf anglers depend on: a rugged XT-7 graphite composite frame, Dyna Balance counterweighted rotor, elongated aluminum spool, advanced AeroWrap II line-lay scheme, smooth 4+1 bearing system with Super Stopper II, and extreme drag power. Retrieve rate: 41" per handle turn. Includes spare spool and 3 line-reduction spacers.

Casts a mileI purchased this reel to go to Matagorda Bay fishing. I am very pleased. With 30# Suffix 832 I could cast a mile. I think I put about 290 yards on the spool. One of the fish I caught was a 60# alligator gar. No problems with the drag and no problems the next cast after landing the gar. The way this reel spools I don't think you would ever have trouble with any braided line pulling into the spool and causing problems. I mounted it on a PENN Carnage II 7' boat spinning rod. The second heaviest. It was a match made in heaven. You won't be disappointed!
