I own a talica II 16,20,and 25.I am 72 and have been fishing since I was 6. I have owned many reels in my life and by far these are the best reels I have ever fished with. I still have a lot of reels that I have purchased over the years and they are in the corner collecting dust.

Not for "REEL" workTime to rescind all previous endorsements of Shimano. Last season we invested in 18 Talica reels for our Alaskan halibut charters. These reels retail at over $600 a piece and did not make it through one season. The insides look like something that has been on the bottom of the ocean for years. However that was not what triggered this call out. Yes we put them to work for a 100 days straight but this is not our first rodeo as you all know. The part that got me was the verbal lashing from the Shimano repair guy about how to treat their “Ferrari” reels! Sorry, our reels are not parked in the garage for show..Ours are busy filling freezers! Then after charges ranging from $60 to $175 to repair reels less than a year old the first one returned to us from them only made it through putting line on before the handle fell off. Yeah O’Fish’ial Charters calling out Shimano to forget the “Ferrari” and give me a good OL American muscle car that can do some work!

Talica 10 and 16I have the 10 & 16 2-speeds. They are beast of a reel for their size and casting ability of a lever drag.
The 10 is the overall size of a Torium 14, or Tekota 500. But holds 500-535 of 50lb braid. 300-330 of 65lb braid. 13lbs drag at strike and 20 at full. I haven't used more than about 8 and it has been more than enough with 30-40lb leaders for tuna and bottom fishing. I wouldn't put more than 12 maybe 13 at strike like is recommended. The reel casts awesome and freespols insane for lever drag. It is the wide spool version and if your looking for a narrow spool, get the 8 for line management and the 8 holds about 300-330 of 50lb braid.
The 16 is a beast and is also the wider version of the 12... Holds more line. I have 550yds of 85lb fins 40g and use the reel for 30-60lb leaders. Freespols awesome and also casts great for lever drag of its size.
It comfortably handles the 15lbs drag I used for 60 when I got a 50lb grouper on it with a custom rod. This reel is about the size of a Trinidad or Torium 20 hga.
These reels are so versatile and powerful that you CC an just put some braid on there and just tie on whatever leader you need at the time to fish with. The drags are so super smooth and the cranking is also smooth. Can't say enough good things about them, other than they have been great the last 2 years

Chunking for yellowfinReel is awesome, purchased for chunking yellowfin tuna. Smoothest reel in the arsenal, and the line retrieval is incredible.

The greatest 2 speedThis summer I caught a 60lb tuna with the 16 reel. It took me 10 minutes to land the fish. I had it on low speed and just kept winding down until the gaff. So I went out and bought the 10 and the 20.
Whats the width and height of the frame of the tac16ll in inches?
Asked by: raincrow
Hi, at this time the information I received from the manufacturer is they do not have those specs on any of their reels and have none in stock at my location to measure one personally. If they would had to guess they would say the following:
Height – 4”
Width – 3.5 – 4”
Thanks!

what size rod is recomened for this reel
Asked by: rell77
I was going to get the terez by shimano but they cancelled their lifetime replacement and heard a lot of those rods snap. I got a star paraflex 66xxxh conventional boat rod for bottom fishing. Pulled snapper and grouper of 27lb and 35 lb right off the bottom. Couldnt be happier
