Shimano Sedona FE Spinning Reel
The popular Shimano® Sedona® FE Spinning Reel has received a makeover to make it more compact and smoother than ever before. Following the trend in other Shimano reels, the Sedona now features a tough M-Compact Body design that utilizes XGT7 composite material to help lighten overall weight and provide a rigid foundation for the internal operations, resulting in impressively smooth winding even under load. Its durable, double-anodized machine-cut spool offers greater line capacity than previous models despite the more-compact body. Shimano's proven Propulsion Line Management System reduces "line-slap" friction at the spool lip, enabling longer, more accurate casting, with computer-designed Dyna-Balance® technology at the rotor to ensure crisp, wobble-free retrieves for your finesse applications. Smaller, lighter, and smoother than ever, the Sedona gives you a great starting point for experiencing the Shimano difference.

Solid reelI bought my Shimano Sedona 2000FE about 6-7 months ago to do some kayak fishing. I paired it with a 6' light action rod. I am a very avid fishermen and fish 2-4 times a week. This is my go to reel. It is still smooth as silk. I was just out fishing 2 days ago and hooked up to a 30" snook and it wrapped itself around a dock piling and I jumped out of my kayak after it, my reel was completely submerged for several minutes. It was the first time this happened with the Sedona and I was worried the snook might of cost me a reel but to my surprise when I opened it up there was no salt deposit anywhere. This is by far the best reel I have ever owned in its reel class. I highly recommend this reel. Oh and I landed the 30" Snook.

Very ordinary reelI needed new reels since my other two reels (from another company) did not perform well anymore after 15 years of fishing with them. So I bought two Sedona reels: a 1000 and a 4000. I also bought a Sahara (see my review page).
First of all, on the 1000 model, the bail will sometimes stay open after I start reeling. Secondly, they are not has smooth as other reels I have used that are less expensive.
I will not be buying Shimano brand reels anymore, especially since I have found a better reel from another company at a better price.

What Model?I don't usually write reviews, but I was SO shocked to see this reel has so little stars I had to offset it.
First I must say I have thousands of dollars of gear and I am a big Shimano Fan. I don't know what model other reviewers have, but I bought the C5000 Model and it has become my favorite reel. It is powerful on the drags for catching redfish in the bay and is extremely smooth. I have being using it in harsh saltwater about every other weekend for over a year now and it is as smooth as the day I took it out of the box. Even took it to Alaska and it was amazing on Salmon.

Design Flaw?I have over 25 Shimano reels from Syncopates to Symetres. I bought 3 of the new Sedona FE reels because they discontinued the FD model which I love. After 1 use, I could feel a grind in one of the reels. I took it to a local reel repair shop that is highly regarded in the Tampa area. The repair guy took it apart and told me it looked like a design flaw in the gear box. He suggested I send it back to Shimano. Stay away from this model. I'm worried about my other two.

DisappointedI purchased the Sedona 3000 FL in April 2016. The reel works perfect and I have had no problems with it except with my big hands. After casting about an hour it wears a blister between my index and ring fingers. The space between the rod and the first bend in the reel mounting bar is two small for my hand. This reel is only good for a person with small hands. If your hand requires an extra large glove, this reel is not for you. I would highly recommend this reel for you lady fishermen.
All of my reels, both casting and spinning, are Shimano with the exception of one. I have no problems with blisters with my other Shimano spinning reels.

Not as good as I was expectingI have owned my Shimano Sedona for 5 open water seasons on my light rod for trout & panfish. I have issues with after casting I want to turn the crank handle and I need to push on it way to hard to get the bail to close. Or more times than not the bail wire will not close and will spin open. If I am not looking at the reel I can feel it spin out of balance. I just took it in for repair along with a lube and cleaning job. I'm hoping I did not waist my money servicing this reel. This past Christmas I received a BPS Gift card, I used it to purchase my 4th flawless Pflueger President. I have two 6935's & 2 6925's.
Would I purchase another Shimano? I thought about the Shimano Symetre FL for a moment for $99.99 and thought why pay more. With the Pflueger President on sale for $49.99 I already know what I am getting, QUALITY, DEPENDABILITY, & VALUE.

Very disappointedI bought 2 of these Sedona 2500 at BP and both have the same problem. When you are reeling in a bait, even something small like a 1/4 oz jig and grub, the handle sticks and bogs down to where you can barely turn it. ESPECIALLY if you impart any inward (toward the reel) pressure while reeling in. I took one to a guy in Tulsa who is supposed to be the "guru" of reel repair and he went through it completely, cleaned it, etc. and it still does the same thing. Must be a design flaw. It is extremely annoying to have this happen out on the water. i will be getting something else to replace them.
Thank you for choosing Bass Pro Shops. This reel has been discontinued. The link below will take you to the Shimano Sedona FI Spinning Reel.

Does this reel has Braid ready spool?
Asked by: Chrisaussb
Yes, the Sedona series of reels are all able to be used with Braid. Shimano owns Power Pro so all our reels are braid rated.
