Bad body designEverything about this reel was perfect except for one thing. The gap between the arm and the foot was too short. I was crushing my knuckles on the arm. I couldn't imagine fishing with this reel all day...I couldn't imagine fishing with it for 10 min. I rated it one star because the reel is useless to me due to comfort.

Good valueThere are so many Shimano reels it is hard to pick. The Sahara has held up to lots of saltwater use and that's the best that any reel can do especially in this price range.

Excellent valueI've put the 2500 through all kinds of fish from crappie to walleye to 30+ inch wipers and I am really impressed with the quality. This wiper was 33 and was screaming drag out with 6 pound line. Took a good 20 minutes but I fought it up current and through several long runs to bring it in. I've had this reel almost six months and it is almost as good as new. It still reels silky smooth, and the drag is extremely smooth as well.
PS- the guy that gave a one star review must have set it or dropped it in sand because mine is great and I've put it through everything except sand. Never lay your rods/reels down on the beach!

This new model Sahara has no anti-reverse selectorJust received a new Sahara FI 1000, and there is no anti-reverse selector on the reel. The anti-reverse is engaged continuously. I've used and enjoyed Shimano reels, mostly Saharas, for over 15 years, and never got one that did not include the anti-reverse selector. To me, the ability to disengage the anti-reverse is a vital part of fishing with any spinning reel. I'll be returning this, and hoping to find one of the "old" models with the selector on it. I may well have to find another brand of reels to use, if Shimano is making such ill advised changes to their Sahara line. Surely, no fisherman was consulted about this change before it was made. The the new gear system in the reel seems to be fantastic, but I can not use one without an anti-reverse selector.
Is there a selector(on-off) for the anti reverse on all models of this reel?

What you are fishing for and your equipment determines your line size and type. Typically your rod and reel have guide lines for the size of line they are best suited for.
