Description
Shimano Metanium MGL Casting Reel
Pure and simple, the Shimano® Metanium MGL Casting Reel is built for effortless operation. Its super-lightweight, magnesium-alloy Hagane frame has found its ideal partner in the Shimano MagnumLite spool; made of a revolutionary aluminum that's 30% lighter than CI4 carbon and supported by Super Free technology, this spool consistently lengthens casting distance by a full 20%. Instead of the standard 6-brake cast control, the Metanium MGL introduces the 4-brake SVS Infinity system, which provides infinite adjustment via an external dial. Retrieves are simply amazing, utterly silent and silky-smooth, thanks to advanced Micro-Module Gearing, which doubles the number of gear teeth in play; Silent Tune; Shimano's acclaimed X-Ship technology; and a sweet 10+1 S-ARB ball-bearing system. With its star-click drag rated at up to 11 lbs. of Max Drag, balanced 84 mm handle, extreme low profile design, and 1-touch removable sideplate, the Shimano Metanium MGL is a joy to fish. For fresh- or saltwater.

Great reel!!!I bought this reel to compare it to my Abu Garcia Revo MGXtreme and they both cast about the same but the Shimano is way smoother

High priced but worth itI’ve never bought one but I did use one for a couple days. The best reel I’ve ever had in my hands. Almost impossible to backlash casting into the wind. Super smooth great drag. Everything about this reel is spot on. Just wish I could afford a few of them.

Tried all the restBeen fishing many years and have had all the (top end) reels..
Purchased the shimano Aldebaran and it's stupid lite but was not a casting reel...just could not get it to cast..
Exchanged it for the Metanium and instantly it was like where have you been my whole life...
Casts everything and anything and will darn near clear the spool...once dialed In...
I'm now getting ready to purchase my 3rd Met...
I just have nothing negative to say about this reel...
Try one and you will NOT regret it..

Its OK!Purchased it and fish it a week and started to make a high pitch and a rough reeling feel to it. I dont know about these reels.

The best all around reel I've ever used.It can do it all, from weightless plastics to 130 Ploppers and pitches like a dream. Everything about it is just a little nicer, even the levelwind hole is more detailed than any other reel. I own 2 of these and use them primarily for finesse presentations. I can throw a weightless senko on a 6'6 m further than with spinning reel on same strength rod. Want to spoil yourself, pick this up.
Cons, the finish is very easy to scratch. Get yourself some reel covers.

This is the reel!I've now fished with this reel for 2 weeks and it's the best all around performer you can buy. Everything about it is solid. Casting, pitching, and reeling this thing outperforms just about anything I've ever used. If you want to save some cash and still get a great reel grab the Chronarch MGL but if you want to spoil yourself grab a Metanium and you won't reach for anything else.

can you use light line in this reel? (6 pound test?)
Asked by: Heybarbara
Thank you for your question about the Shimano Metanium MGL Casting Reel. Unfortunately, 6 lb test line is too light of fishing line to use on this reel. The manufacturer recommends 12 lb test mono line.
