Q&A
The dirty little secret in baitcasters is that standard reels really don't handle lighter lines and smaller lures very well. For those who'd rather not switch to spinning gear when downsizing your presentation, the Shimano® Curado® 70 Baitcast Reel will be a more-than-welcome addition to your arsenal. This ultra-compact, smooth-running reel offers the high performance the Curado series is known for, with all the Shimano refinements anglers have come to rely on, to make pitching, flipping and casting light lures a breeze—even in a breeze. Palmable comfort. A rigid Hagane body for ultimate strength and durability. Shimano Stable Spool Design (S3D) vibration-reducing technology for smooth casting performance. A new, externally adjustable SVS Infinity brake system that provides specific support for casting small baits, with consistent cast control at all settings. Advanced X-Ship Technology for fluid, friction-free winding, supported by a quality 5+1 ball-bearing system. A solid drag system that provides up to 10 lbs. of drag pressure for handling double-digit bass, walleye, or redfish.

Really smooth!I have all spinning tackle because that's what I grew up with and am used to but I had a hard time casting 1oz crankbaits like a DT10 for example. The line would come off my forefinger and tear it up. I like the size of this as it's easy to hold in your hand. It's a shallow spool but will hold plenty of line for long casts. Once I got it dialed in I could cast long distances with ease. Seems to work well with other types of lures as well.

Great ReelExtremely comfortable to fish for long periods of time. Pair with a Zodias rod of the appropriate action for your presentation. I use 30lb braid on both of mine. Prefer the 7 gear ratio but the 8 is great too. I can bomb baits with this reel and have not spooled it yet.

A.M.A.Z.I.N.GThis reel is amazing! I originally purchased the Johnny Morris Titanium 8 baitcast combo. After the palm side reel cover came off and flew into the pond, I returned it and spent the extra money and got the Shimano. That reel flying into the water is the BEST thing that could have happened. This reel is so far superior and worth every penny. For a high speed reel it has quite a bit of cranking power even when pulling larger bait. Give it a try, you WILL NOT be disappointed.

71xgThis reel is flat out amazing. I seem to be using this more than my Core51 when fishing, whether it be fishing for bass, or redfish, trout and flounder. I use 15 and 20lb braid for my medium applications and as time goes on, these will most likely replace my 200's for MH, keeping my 200's for 40, 50, 65lb braids. They cast amazing, silky smooth, powerful carbon drags.

Great SizeSo far this is the nicest Shimano I've owned. Extremely comfortable and casts outstanding. Nothing has tested the drag yet...unfortunately.

Awesome To Fish WithFor the price, you would think there would be some comprimises that Shimano made to justify the lower price point compared to other reels it makes such as the Ci4 but instead I felt no discernable difference between those two. Moreover, this outclasses the 200 curado by a wide margin because of its lighter weight, better drag, and overall ease of palming. Definitely recommend!
Thank you for your question! This is a smaller reel than the 100 model.

Light lures
This advertises light lures. What is the lightest weight recommended?
Asked by: Chris3111
Per the Manufacturer - "That will depend on the lb line he uses as well as the rod used and his ability to use this type of reel. I know I can throw a 1/4 oz lure but that is me. It will depend on his ability and what he is using to throw it "

Saltwater use
Are you able to use these in saltwater aplications?
Asked by: Chris3111
Thank you for your question! While this is not a saltwater reel that does not mean it can't be used in saltwater. However, if it is used in saltwater the metal will corrode faster, and will need to be thoroughly clean after use.
