Rated 1 out of 5 by Kevins Dad from Don't bother with this one I shopped around for a couple of telescoping rods to stash away on a sailboat I had recently purchased. We have 24' Carolina Skiff we been fishing with for the last ten years but I love all boats as long as I'm not in the middle of a breaking bait pile without a rod. One of my twin boys loves fishing almost as much as me and we needed these small stow-able rods to keep aboard or he may not have come on the sailboat for our first outing with it. On our very first trip, Kevin, who is only 8 was casting a beetle spin over the side of the boat as we sailed up towards Annapolis. Of course he wasn't going to catch anything but you don't think I'm gonna stop him from imagining he was gonna snag a sea monster do you? To my surprise and his about an hour or so into our trip he flips out the beetle spin only to have the rod snap into two pieces. I have never, ever seen such an incredibly cheap, piece of junk, fishing rod in my life. His heart sank and so did mine a little. Kevin is a little guy for his age but a good caster. The fact that the rod broke wasn't his fault. It had to be a defect and it was not repairable. We didn't have any issues with the reel and I didn't throw it away. Maybe that's were the $20 value is but it doesn't do much good without a rod to mount it on. The saving grace was that I only paid $20 so I didn't expect much, although I certainly expected better than this. I had purchased two of these rods. One of which I haven't attempted to use. The other is in the trash after less than an hour of use. I also had brought 5 other rods that weren't of the telescoping variety that day so we did catch fish after we made it to our anchorage and Kevin was happy to have the opportunity. I haven't contacted Bass Pro about it because $20 isn't worth the effort but I can say, little Kevin isn't going to forget where we purchased that rod and I bet every time we are there he's going to bring it up. I'm not looking to get any money back or a replacement. I knew when I bought the rod I was taking a chance due to the cheap price. I guess I got what I paid for. Bottom line. Don't bother with this one. I'm still in the market for some decent quality telescoping rods if there is such a thing cause I don't want to keep my best rods on my sailboat.
