just looks like a reeli bought this reel last december just now was able to use it for the first time lost 2 big fish in the gulf before i put it up. the line would fold back behind the spool and cut it first time i tried tightning up the spool but had no effect other than eating line. this thing is going back.

Good but does not spread out line evenlyCaught several large King Salmon and a monster Ling Codbut every time I was dealing in it would not spread out line on the retrieval evenly, I had to manually place my thumb or finger to along rail to make sure line spooled evenly. If I didn’t it would slip when it built up on the side. I have other reels that do not have this issue. Still liked the reel once I got use to having to do this each time.

The only boat multiplier you needI have twelve Special Senators from 3/0 to 9/0 and they have never, ever let me down, despite extremely heavy punishment in British waters and intermittent negiect: some of my Senators are 1960s vintage and they are quite literally as good as new regardless of punishment. Easy to maintain, seemingly indestructible and simple to use - what you want when you are trying to crank up a conger from 80 metres in a boat rolling from gunwale to gunwale - and frankly one reel will handle anything from feathering for mackerel to 3lb flatties to big shark - a 6/0 or even a 4/0 Senator will carry enough line and have enough oomph to manage: the star drag is also subtle and positive and can be set to find limits easily. Can not recommend them enough!

Its a beastI just got it and it is huge. A lot more than I expected for the money. Penn has a great rep and have been around a long time so I'm not worried about performance. I'm looking forward to deep water fishing. Hopefully this saltwater noob can hang

Great time tested reelWe use the penn senators nearly every day catching grouper, sharks and tarpon in southwest Florida. Always dependable good line capacity and consistent drag. There is a reason they have been around so long. They are workhorses.
