Description
Penn Slammer III Spinning Reel
Go toe-to-toe with the meanest fish in the sea, and win the battle, with the Penn® Slammer® III Spinning Reel. This reinvented version of an old favorite pushes the envelope on spinning reel performance for heavy-duty saltwater applications from albacore to tuna, and everything in between. It boasts a number of features never before seen on a single Penn spinning reel. Built for unrelenting strength and reliability, with an all-aluminum Full Metal Body, sideplate, and rotor, the Slammer III's body, gearbox, and spool are sealed to IPX6 specifications, to protect key internals from the ravages of heavy seas and pounding salt spray. The top-end Slammer Drag System is also fully sealed; and completely beefed-up with massive Dura-Drag™ phenolic-coated carbon-fiber washers, providing smooth, consistent drag power from 30 lbs. in the smallest 3500 size to 60 lbs. in the 10000 size. CNC Gear™ technology includes full brass, fully machined to ultra-close tolerances, for extreme cranking power with no hesitation. With its smooth-and-steady 6+1 stainless steel bearing system and machined-aluminum handle knob, The Penn Slammer III fishes extremely well from a kayak, into the surf, inshore, or offshore; there simply are no limits. Features line capacity markings on both spool walls, for quick reference from any angle. Standard models are trimmed in gold and include a spare EVA handle knob for swap-outs. High Speed (HS) models have red trim and include 2 separate handle assemblies, 1 for jigging and 1 for casting.

Great buy, and great productI purchased this reel after hearing about it in a fishing chat room. I needed a reel for a 31 hour tuna, Mahi Mahi, and giant squid trip at the Hudson Canyons in September as a backup or primary reel. I used this reel for most of the trip. It has great features and I will be using it again this month if October for a stripper trip. I was not disappointed. Btw all my reels are from Penn Reel.

Surprised how soon it brokeI've owned a lot of penn products but never had one that the handle screw broke off before it's 6 months old.

Excellent Reel!I have owned my Slammer III 3500 for almost two years now, with probably hundreds of pounds of varying types of fish caught on it, and have never experienced a single issue with the reel whatsoever. This reel has not been taken care of well, frequently being subjected to varying levels of submersion in saltwater and sand without being rinsed afterward. I have dropped this reel directly onto concrete, rocks, etc and as of this point, the only damage it has received has been in the form of some minor scratches. This reel has a ridiculously powerful drag for its size, and when using it as a bottom fishing reel offshore, has stopped 10lb grouper and snapper. This reel has incredible durability and stopping force, and while it may not be quite as light or smooth as a high-end Shimano or Daiwa, it will almost definitely outlast and outpower them. If you're looking for a reel that will stop almost any species of hard-pulling fish in their tracks, is light enough to fish with all day, and will serve you well for many years, look no further... the Penn Slammer III is hands-down the best all around durable spinning reel.

Tough to Beat for the MoneyThis is my 3rd Penn Slammer and I have not been disappointed with any of them. Large line capacity makes it a great reel for kingfish.
What boat rod would best pair with the 8500hs? CARBWII50100S70? or is their a better combo?

What is the difference between the Penn Spinfisher five series and the Penn Slammer three series? Which of the two is the most recent release by Penn? Is one better than the other? Thanks!
Asked by: Garno
Thank you for your questions. The Penn Slammer III has 6+1 ball bearings. Compared to the same level of Spinfisher V reel the Slammer has a larger line capacity and more recovery per turn. Both reels have the sealed Slammer Drag System.
