Poor mechanically constructedI bought this reel and out of the box it looked great fathom 2lw. Played with it only to find the retrieve would not engage. Sending off for warranty repair at my dime for shipping. Highly disappointed.

Very well madeThe penn fathom ii is a very well made reel and you know it as soon as you first lay hands on it. The Eva foam double handle is extremely comfortable and that is odd for me because usually I’m a single power handle guy which this reel in the 15 series comes with as well. Would and will buy another in the future.

Best reel on the boatI have the origional Fathom and it was time to add another complete set up to the arsenal. I paired the FathomII with the carnage II 80-200 6'6" rod for my new set up. I fish offshore in southern california / northern baja for tuna, yellowtail, dorado, and other pelagic fish and this set up makes short work of them. The FathomII is the smoothest reels ive used in a long time, the drag system works flawlessly and is easy to adjust on the fly. I havn't met a fish to this day that the drag system can't beat. The level wind system is an added bonus, it allows you to fight a big fish while not having to worry about how the line is spooling back on the reel, and lays the line back evenly helping line flow off the reel much better. its a nice light powerhouse reel. From live bait on a fly line to a heavy jig the Fathom II is my go to reel 100% of the time. The only complaint I could even think of is that they dont have a Fathom II with a 6:1 or higher speed gear ratio for throwing fast retrieve top water baits and yo yo jigs yet..

Solid reelI just received this reel a few days ago. I bought it to replace a Penn Squall 30 levelwind that was a solid reel but I wanted to upgrade. I took the Fathom II and set up the Squall for the girlfriend. Both reels are used for casting 8 ounce and higher weight for sturgeon on the Snake River in Idaho. The Fathom II reel is of sturdy construction and has a smooth operation.

Little Billy Bob Bad Axx!This is perfection,more comfortable size, increased retrieve speed, still enough spool capacity, still kept. 30lbs. of drag & casts out of site. The perfect Musky reel in my opinion or any application you choose. Form, function, dependability & PRICE! Penn you knocked out of the park again, Much Appreciated! I am left handed also, thanks again.
