Q&A
The Offshore Angler™ Breakwater™ Surf Spinning Rod is a great choice for anglers who fish in various regions throughout the year. Whether surf fishing stripers in the Northeast, bull reds in the Carolinas and Texas, pompano in Florida, or leopard sharks in California, Breakwater Surf Rods maximize casting range to deliver heavy baits beyond the breakwater. To provide the power needed for wrestling hard fighters from strong currents, Breakwater Rods utilizes RT1 Graphite blanks, formulated to be tough and dependable. Fuji® aluminum oxide guides and graphite reel seats keep weight down and provide strength. X-Wrap shrink tube grips provide a secure hold in wet conditions. The Offshore Angler Breakwater Surf Rod has the balance, power, and leverage to haul in the big ones from way out there.

My favorite rodI bought the 9’ rod five months ago because I just wanted a new surf rod. I paired it with a 8000 size Daiwa BG. Love the rod and the leverage I have with it. Fought many fish with it and has held up perfectly. Thinking about buying a 12’ for landbase sharks.

probably good for bait & waitits still too heavy for constant lure casting in the surf. Its not too parabolic to launch 3oz wood with precision although it can do 3 oz metals and lead. And its not parabolic enough to work/walk surface wood.
looks well made although it doesn't have a lot of guides.
its probably good for bait fishing

Good ValueBeen surf fishing for two years now. The 11 ft model(2015) was a big improvement over a 10 ft Shakespeare Powerod I bought the previous year. Casting distance was significantly improved. A smaller diameter handle made this rod much more comfortable to fish all day. Thought the sensitivity was very good, could tell what the bottom was just from the "feel" ie sand or small rocks. Just wish it had a faster action on the tip, I think it would improve the casting distance especially when using lighter lures.

Thanks for your inquiry! These are 2 piece rods. A good reel to pair them with would be our Offshore Angler Breakwater Surf Spinning Reel - BW7000 (SKU 2175649).

What size reel on 8' rod?
For the 8' foot breakwater rod (model: BKW812202) would you recommend a Penn Fierce II 4000 or 5000? I will be putting on 30lbs braded line.
Asked by: ajgrascia
We recommend the Penn Fierce II 5000 reel for the Offshore Angler Breakwater Surf Spinning Rod - 8 ft. The Penn Fierce II 5000 takes 300 yards of 30 lb braided line. Thank you for your inquiry.
