Nikon Prostaff P3 Shotgun Scope
The Nikon® Prostaff® P3 Shotgun Scope offers superior performance in a shotgun scope that's specifically designed to engage targets at maximum ranges with rifled barreled slug guns (200 yards and beyond). The BDC 200 reticle is compatible with Nikon's patented Spot-On™ Ballistic Match Technology, which allows you to discover all the aiming points on the scope's reticle at various yardages for your specific ammunition and load. Windage and elevation adjustments hand-turn with 1/4-MOA clicks, and have spring-loaded, zero-reset turrets. A fully multicoated optical system provides tremendous light transmission for maximum brightness, extending the time you can shoot during the critical minutes at dawn and dusk. A quick-focus eyepiece lets you focus sharply at various ranges, and a generous eye relief keeps the eyepiece away from the shooter's forehead during recoil. The Nikon ProStaff P3 Shotgun Scope has a matte-finished 1" aluminum main tube, and is waterproof, and fogproof. Manufacturer's lifetime warranty.

Solis Slug Gun ScopeWanted to upgrade optics on my slug gun and have other nikon scopes that have performed well for me. Clarity and objective are just right, and length allows for solid eye relief. The BDC reticle, you need to shoot high velocity slugs to line up correctly. I am shooting older slugs that are a bit slower (400fps slower) which made me have to figure out which reticle to use.

Nice Slug Gun Scope12 ga. Super X2 with a cantilever scope mount.
I have been procrastinating about getting a decent shotgun scope. It's hard to find the 5" eye relief. I settled on Nikon because of the lifetime warranty. (Keep the warranty card and sales receipt.)
It does not come with rings and one inch rings were too short.
I needed extra high rings to get clearance on my cantilever barrel.
I also added a bulter creek neoprene cheek riser. (It looks like a sock that you add foam pads to raise your cheek.)
After reading the instructions on the BDC reticle, they mention they like 1900 fps polymer tip sabots.
Nikon has an app on their website that shows coresponding bullet drop to the reticle for just about any slug you might want.
I sighted in with Winchester 3" BRI 485 grain, 50 cal. sabots at 1400 fps.
The first shot was low 2" and left 18" at 50 yrds. After adjusting with 2 more, the gun is holding a 1/2" group at 50 yards. That's good enough for the deer I see.
Exactly how many inches is "generous eye relief"?

The 2-7x32 is 3.8" and the 3-9x40 is 5"

Can you put this scope on a muzzleloader
Asked by: Deerman1984
All scopes are tested to handle up-to a .50 caliber recoil. The P3 3-9 shotgun scope has 5inches of eye relief consistent with the muzzleloader scopes we have. To calculate the holdover you would need to use the Spot On Software available from Nikon.
