Quality control problemsI bought to wo rifles at the same time.A Marlin XT22m and a Savage A22.The savage was accurate right out of the box, and the Marlin was totally off.Didn't even print on a 20 inch target at 25 meters.Sights were way off and no amount of adjusting will get them on target. Most folks will mount a scope on this rifle, and now I have to in order to use this gun.The Savage was 100 dollars less money [22lr version] and a much better made rifle.

XT22MExtremely nice gun. The price does not reflect the quality as I expected would be the case. I added a 3x9 22 Mag Scope 40mm lens. It groups the size of a dime @ 60 yards and about the size of a quarter @ 100 yards. It is not as good for squirrels as a 22 LR due to the higher energy of the bullet. It take out a whole front half unless you make a head shot and defines what a 22 MAG is! For coyote hunting it is perfect out to 200 yards. Head shots are easy with the low recoil. A fun gun to shoot, but ammo is like any 22 cal - HARD TO FIND.

compared to the rest, this seems the best!Looked at at the competitors model in this and was not impressed, passed on that (name sounds like old native slang). Picked up the Marlin XT and was immediately impressed on "heft" and overall quality for the extra $20bucks.. Put a relatively low priced scope on it and was shooting 1 inch groups @ 100yds with ease. No problems with feeding or ejecting cases. Came with an additional 4rd mag for ease of carry. 7rd mag gives adequate rounds to plink without reloading. Overall good gun. 22WMR is a bit pricey on ammo, but you won't use a lot when you hit what you're aiming at the first time!!

Great gun for the priceBought the gun three years ago. Put a simmons 3X9 22 mag scope on it. What a good combination this is. Can shoot small game at 100yds with great accuracy. Just love to shoot it. Nice to have two clips as well. Shoot 40 grain bullets. Would recommend this gun for any trapper who shoots beaver. Great gun.

Marlin XT-22 magThe first thing I noticed when taking this gun out of the box at home was the fact that the front sight was 1/8" left of center line and not in line with the back sight. It makes this gun next to impossible to shoot with open sights which I wasn't overly concerned with since I planned on mounting a scope on it anyway. Wouldn't you think that after more than 100 years of making guns Marlin would have figured out how to put the sights on straight and in line with each other. Unbelievable!!!.
On the plus side, the laminated stock on the gun looks very nice. After mounting scope on the gun and sighting in I was able to shoot a 1-1/8" 5 shot group at 100 yards from a bench rest and sand bags. I shot 3 different kinds of 22mag ammo with the Hornady 30 grain producing the best group.
No misfires, No jams.
The gun is worth buying but inspect it at the store for sight alignment before buying.
what kind of animals will you be able to kill with this rifle?
Asked by: that1guy774
Thank you for your question!
This rifle is chambered in .22 Winchester Magnum Rifle (WMR), so it's suited to smaller game and not larger animals like deer. You will want to check your local laws and regulations before you take it hunting, though, to be sure what you're legally able to hunt your desired game with it.
I hope this information helps!

Best scope - rimfire or dovetail mount?
I've been searching endlessly for a scope for this rifle and get 15 recommendations for every 15 people asked. I've been cautioned to avoid using a scope mounted using the dovetail because of stability. So it comes predrilled for rimfire scopes and 3-9x32 recommendations - people of bass pro, where do you fall? Thank you.
Asked by: Moose77
Many rail systems that use the tapped holes on top of a receiver are dovetail. I personally don't have any issues with dovetail and am surprised there are any issues, especially with 22 rim fire as there is no shock of recoil as with larger caliber rifles. This is why rim fire scopes are generally less expensive. They do not have to be built to withstand all that shock. I used the built in dove tail mounts on the Savage 64, why purchase expensive hardware if you don't have to? The Center Point 3-9X40 rim fire scope had all good reviews, can be purchased for under $60 and works great. It comes with scope rings designed for the existing dove tails so you save on hardware yet again. The scopes stays secure, again no shock from recoil. We landed dead center groupings with the Savage 64 looking through the Center Point rim fire scope mounted with the dove tail. Enjoy.

will it kill a deer
Asked by: goonchy
Probably, bu highly illegal to use a rim fire for deer. Unless a head or neck shot it will only cripple a deer and let it run off and die in the brush
