Mantis MantisX Firearms Training System
Train smarter, not harder. With Mantis' MantisX Firearms Training System, you can hone your skills in no time. Simply connect the device to the accessory rail of your firearm. It works with live fire, dry fire, airsoft and CO2. Download the free app on your smartphone and then pair the device with your phone via Bluetooth®. The device tracks the movement of your handgun's barrel during each trigger pull. The green trace shows where you were holding/sighting, the yellow trace shows your trigger pull and the red trace shows your shot breaking and recoil pattern. The MantisX then scores your shot by how much you moved away from your sighted position. It can analyze an individual shot or a group of shots and then provide you with suggestions for improving your shooting mechanics. Internal battery rechargeable via included micro-USB cable.

If you own a subcompact handgun . . .I received my MantisX with two-day free shipping from Cabela's, and opened the package with great expectations. What should have been a 5-star review is really a 4.5, but the only choice is 4-stars.
My two handguns are a S&W M&P Shield 9mm and a Springfield Armory XD9 9mm. Both are subcompacts, but the M&P Shield does not have an accessory rail. My XD9 is already outfitted with a Viridian C5 laser light.
After removing the laser, I was disappointed to discover that the MantisX will not work "perfectly" with my XD9. As you can see in Photo 1, it is too large for a subcompact frame. The app does permit "reverse" mounting on the rail, but the diameter of the holddown screws (one slotted, one thumbscrew) are too large to fit the slot on the XD9 rail. As shown in the photo, I am able to tighten the thumbscrew sufficiently to keep it snug on the rail, but it may not withstand the recoil of live fire to remain in place.
By comparison, the Viridian C5 comes with several pairs of alternate rail mounts and screws that permit a perfect fit of the laser to my pistol (see Photo 2). Perhaps the MantisX design team can compare the two designs and come up with something similar, or simply reduce the diameter of the screws to permit their use when mounting the device in reverse position.
Having said all that, operationally, the MantisX is superb! I downloaded the Android app prior to receiving the device, and after turning on the device and pressing the "Connect" button in the app, the two synced within a few seconds. Step 2 requires laying the weapon on a flat surface for calibration, which took only about 4-5 seconds. Amazingly fast -- and fully worthy of a 5-star rating for the app!
The IOS app installed on my iPad (6th Gen) connected and calibrated quickly, but mostly fails to detect my Dry Fire shots, so I will have to play with it some more to figure out what the issue is.. To be fair, no rating for the IOS app at this time.
The first five Dry FIre "shots" recorded in my Android app confirmed what I already knew about my shooting, and I will now be able to diligently correct my mistakes. For that alone, the MantisX deserves a 5-star rating. I am genuinely looking forward to putting this little tool to work ASAP.
I will have to purchase a Mag Rail adapter to use the device with my XD9 to avoid having to mount/dismount my Viridian laser. I did purchase a Mag Rail for my M&P Shield from a different vendor.
There is only one genuinely "negative" thing to say about the MantisX -- it does not have an "auto off" feature. If you forget to turn it off, don't worry, it will be off soon enough. But you won't be able to use it the next time untill you charge it with the included USB Micro cable.

MantisX Training DeviceI am not a techy person but was intrigued by this device. There's not much chatter about it on gun forums but there are a number of positive yt vids. It is easy to setup and connect with your smartphone. The app download is free.
It allows live or dry fire and the results are self explanatory. It basically presents an electronic snapshot of your trigger pull and hand movement for each shot. It will describe problem areas in a brief statement and will also provide a short paragraph definition of the statement.
My unit came not fully charged so give it 15 min or so on the included USB charging system. Charging specs are 2 hours will give you 12 hours use.
I am enjoying this device and consider it a valuable training tool!
