Hodgdon Pyrodex Powder
A propellant designed for use in muzzleloading and black powder cartridge arms, Hodgdon® Pyrodex® Powder burns cleaner and produces less fowling than black powder. Pyrodex RS can be used in all calibers of percussion muzzleloading rifles and shotguns while Pyrodex P can be used in muzzleloading pistols, cap and ball revolvers, or small bore, muzzloading rifles. RS compares to 2F black powder on a particle size basis while P is a replacement for FFFg black powder when measured volumetrically using a black powder measure. 1 lb.

This Is All I Ever UsePyrodex is quite simply the best. It is all I ever use. It is far less fouling and cleans up quick as a wink with hot soapy water.

Use for an old 45-70 and muzzle loaderStarted using this powder for reloads for a 45-70 trap door. works great and it's cheap and easy to find. Seems to shoot consistent. I've used it for a long time in my muzzies and have never had any issues with shooting, cleaning or just maintaining when hunting. Seems to be really consistent.

Very dirtyShoots fine but way to dirty. Had to swab TC Triumph between shots. Cleanup is a disaster. Switched to Blackhorn 209. Shoots well and cleanup is soo easy.
What is the difference between pyrodex rs and pyrodex p ? Does one have more power ?

I have a Thompson center Tree hawk muzzle loader that says only black powder or pyrodex only no smokeless powder. It takes # 10 or 11 percussion caps. Is this the proper powder for it?

Is the FFF black bowder listed under this item a suitable powder for a black powder pistol?
I have an Pietta 1858 New Army .44 with a steel frame and I am searching for suitable powder. I know that the Pyrodex P will work, but I am wondering if the FFF will as well.

How many charges do you get out of a pound of Pyrodex?

Pyrodex is a black powder substitute. It is equivalent to a volumetric measure of black powder, not by weight. So a 70 grain volume of Pyrodex is the equivalent volume of 70 grains of black powder. But pyrodex is less dense than black powder so a 70 grain volume of Pyrodex weighs less than 70 grains. So a pound of pyrodex should give you more charges than a pound of black powder.
