The best fish finder / GPS I have ever had. This Garmin has got to be the best fish finder that I have ever had and it will beat the Humminbird Helix 7 to the end of time. This has got to be the best fish finder out there and your best buy and the easiest one to learn to use. The screen shows up nice and clear in the sun and humminbird helix 7 does not this is my best buy ever so look no more.

Best machine for the moneyI have a Hummingbird on the console of my boat and it is a fine machine. I wanted to add a machine to my trolling motor. When I look at the different models and manufactures I kept coming back to the 7 SV. It offers more for the money that any others. I really wanted a full 7" screen, I wanted SV and SI. I wanted to download Waypoints. Again I kept coming back to the Garmin. And when I read the reviews, that sealed the deal for me. Not I have used the machine about 10 times over the past 30 days. And couldn't be happier. It is the best machine for $500.00 out their hands down.

Great entry fish finder!I bought this unit almost a year ago, and i have no complaints. True it doesn't come loaded with maps and i knew that, which is why I used the active captain app and downloaded the the areas i fish on the columbia river and mapped out the rest. SideVu and downVu have amazing quality, A few of my friends after fishing with me a while all went and bought garmin units. I'll run garmin from now on and im buying the 93sv next and putting the striker in the front of the boat.

LackingWhile the side vu and clear vu are phenomenal, this unit lacks one important thing. Unless you know the lakes you fish like the back of your hand, you may want to entertain a different model. There are no maps with this unit and no ability to add them. I like a unit that has topographic maps of the lakes I fish to help me find points, and, as the reservoirs drop, avoid sand bars. Buyer beware, if you want topographic maps for the lakes, this is NOT the unit you want. Check out the echoMAP models instead.

I love these finders.I bought the original 2 years ago. I'm on the water almost every weekend from February to september, and it's still going strong. It does take some getting use to, like a new cell phone. The side view is not perfect, it is hard to see small game fish (10-12 inch crappie for example) when they are more than 20 to 25 feet to the left or right. I do find a lot more brush piles, logs, and points though. I use the side view with sonar and gps to find likely holding places and then fish them. I would buy this again.

Simple is goodI really like how much simpler it is to find what you are looking for on these units. Installation went well with both units I installed. Good directions go along way. It draws a crystal clear picture. This is my first Garmin, but not my last.

Is there a minimum distance for transducer mounting from big motor lower unit in fear of cavitation interference
Asked by: kevin55
For single outboard this is typically several inches to the right. For dual outboards, it is suggested to mount the transducer directly between. More information can be found within the devices installation manual.
