Battery EaterBought this for an elk hunt deep in Idaho with a group of guys hunting similar vicinity but not directly together. We had 3 755t’s between us. Range to talk to each other was advertised as up to 5 miles. We found the effective range to be approximately one mile. We were packed in 3 miles so battery life is important. One and a half days maximum battery life. Definitely need the AA extra battery pack if charging isn’t an option. When using the “walkie-talkie” feature, it often squelched VERY loudly despite changing the squelch settings and trying everything. I wasn’t impressed. I’d rather buy a regular moderately priced gps.

New Rino 755TI had an fortunate mishap last Fall when I lost a 5 year old Rino 650 in the mountains. Unable to recover, I decided to upgrade to the new Rino 755T. So far, other than the added camera feature, the 2 units seem to be fairly similar. Although, I do like the larger brighter screen feature. The true test will come in couple months when I’m getting it ready for my yearly elk hunting trip. Satisfied so far. More to come. MWP

Update to my previousReviewNotice I have updated my rating from a 3 to a 5 tgkfish
I have used the Rino series of devices for many years and have come to depend on them to know where the other hunting partners are. I lost a 650 and desparately needed another Rino...I initially bought the Rino 700 but its lack of an electronic compass made it difficult to quickly teach a new hunter on its use. The big changes from the 650 to 755t is the screen...much cleaner maps and the simplified user interface.
I called Garmin tech support for help--after exchanging emails...and they got me all straightened up. The battery is fine..it just took a very long time to charge.
This is a must have for hunters.

Some good points but needs some software updatesI have been using the Garmin Rino series for a long time and they really make hunting fun...allowing you to easily find your partner. There are some nice features on this device ...I like the screen clarity, the map is actually usable. But there are a number of features the 650 has that the 755 bad needs:
1. The navigation to a contact does not automatically update when the contact moves and updates position. This is a killer.
2. Battery capacity is not evident.
3. The Rino goes to mute all the time and is irritatating when you are trying to contact someone and don't get a response...you think they are out of range or something.
4 only communicates to other Rino users..wish it communicated with other radios
If they fix these issues...I would rate it a five but right now it is an expensive GPS.

755TThis radio takes time to learn the settings but once you figure them out it works good. If you leave it on for the entire day you will need to recharge it nightly. Also it will go into mute mode after each time you shut it down so watch for that. Still trying to figure out how to disable that feature. Overall it works great. The larger screen makes a huge difference for using the GPS to.

Rino 755tIt would be nice if it came with an owners manual you could take with you for quick reference. Once you figure out how to use it which takes some practice it is very nice. It’s a touch/swipe screen so it’s easy to hit the back or menu icon, can get frustrating. Overall I like it. Like everything it could be a little better.

Battery UsageIt is aggravating to be in the middle of a multi day hunt and the battery goes dead on the GPS. The price you pay for the Rhino 755T you would think would include a better battery and the optional battery back for the AA batteries so that you don't have to go without a GPS in the backwoods of Alaska.
