Hard to adjust shaft heightFlags are cheap and you need to adjust the spool shaft upon each use and when in the cold is not easy and it breaks. Plastic reel ha handle or spool break.

Did not work as advertisedInsulation did not keep tip-up from freezing up while other HT models worked better last weekend. Frabill model had to be chipped out of the ice after 12 hours in 0 degree temps. Plastic so chintzy it cracked all over the ice in yellow shards. Spool is not long enough on shaft so it cracked and broke when removed. Save your money. All my other tip-ups operated fine without freeze-up and removed without damage.

Best Tip Up Ive Used Thus FarI finally shelled out to add a couple of these to my arsenal and glad I did. I was using these in -8 degree weather and no issues what so ever with my holes freezing over. These truly do insulate the hole very well. The flag is on the smaller side so deep snow conditions could be hard to see but not impossible. Also has a light indicator to help with that issue. One thing I wish is that the spool had a little handle to make spooling easier. Spooling was not hard, just a bit weird at first to get the hang of it. I want to pick up a few more of these bad boys!!!

Frabill Pro-Thermal Tip-upThe two best things about this tipup are that it keeps the holes from freezing and they're very compact for transporting. They're not ideal for deep snow as sometimes the spool won't be in the water and/or you can't see the flag. They're great when it's really cold and the holes freeze fast. Also great when there is no snow on the ice as you can build up a lip around the edge with the cuttings from the hole and they stay put. It is a little tricky/awkward to get used to rewinding the spool, but not horrible. I also like that you can see the mechanism spinning from afar if the fish is running.

For aggressive fish only!I bought 4 of these. First of all they do fit into a 5 gallon pail very well and are some what thermal. The light is a good idea if you're on a night-bite lake. I loobed the trigger to make them more sensitive, however that did not help. So far the only species to set these off are catfish and 75% of the time the minnow has been sucked off the hook. You have to give the line one heck of a tug to set this device off, so I would recommend some other tip up system for finicky fish.
