Q&A
One of the most popular hook styles made, these Bait Holder hooks from Eagle Claw® are designed for the serious bait angler. Eagle Claw's Bait Holder hooks feature two sharp slices on the shank which hold the bait more effectively, while its offset design and quick penetrating forged points help get the job done. Ringed eye. Nickel finish. Model 189. Made in USA.

Straight Eye Nickel Baitholder HooksThese hooks are perfrect for using soft plastics as well as baits in different situations when heavy duty hook strength is not critical. Use it for specific saltwater situations. The nickel finish lends itself nicely as an alternative to the red and bronze colors when specific presentations are required in different water conditions particularly when the hook becomes part of the presentation. At times the smallest available size 2 is too conspicuous so need to down size to a 4 or even a size 6. Just wish Cabela's would stock those smaller sizes so I don't have to go searching to source them from places where I have no experience. ~sigh . . . I guess you can't have everything even from the very best outdoor retailer.

Great HooksI catch sheepshead, redfish, and black drum all the time without these breaking. I go through a ton of hooks and these can't be beat for the price. The more expensive ones may be a little stronger/sharper, but it hits your wallet hard when you lose them!
I also love that Eagle Claw continues to make their hooks in the USA!

Nice hooksI purchased the hooks to tie buck tails teasers. Good quality hook, but I am not crazy about the offset shank! Straight work and look better for my particular need.

Hooks break?I have always been a fan of Eagle Claw hooks, and never had a single problem with one. But a few times I've heard quite a few people tell me that Eagle Claw hooks tend to break. I didn't believe this, because I've used them forever, and of course under a HUGE amount of stress anything will break. But the other night I was fishing, and the guy next to me had a pigfish rigged up and casted out in hopes of getting something big, and then his rod bent and his drag was SCREAMING. So he tightens up the drag a little to be able to fight the fish and starts fighting it and then all the sudden, no fish. So he reels in the rig and sees that the hook snapped, right at the curve. NOW, it COULD have been a shark and the sharp teeth COULD have weakened the hook and he definately wasnt using a proper hook for a shark. BUT, he rigged up again, another Eagle Claw hook, same bait, casted out. Then his drag started goin off again, and he set the hook, and actually got the fish in. It was a big Sail Cat, about 24" long, not sure how much it weighed we didnt weigh it. Originally I thought this is what he hooked before but the one before was alot stronger, maybe a shark or maybe a slightly bigger cat, but either way, the hook broke, and it took away some of my confidence in the brand. I haven't been fishing in a while, so maybe Eagle Claw did something to the alloy in the metal they use in order to prevent it from rusting or corroding more, and that might have weakened the metal. But either way, I'm gunna start using another brand, just to be safe, and why not, they are all roughly the same price. Good luck.
