Q&A
For high-end performance at an affordable price, the Daiwa® Tatula® SV TW Baitcast Reel represents quite a bargain. Based on the success of the original, Daiwa has added its acclaimed Stress-free Vertical (SV) technology to give the Tatula more intuitive castability. The SV Concept combines an ultra-lightweight spool made of Super Duralumin with a movable induct rotor that interacts with the brake system's magnetic field to regulate spool speed during the cast – according to the weight of your lure. Add in the Air Rotation spool and Daiwa's angle-reducing T-Wing levelwind system, and the result is maximum casting distance with near-zero backlashes, even when skipping lightweight lures. Additional features include a compact, easily palmable aluminum frame; smooth 8-bearing (7+1) system with 2 CRBB plus instant anti-reverse; Ultimate Tournament Carbon Drag (UTD) with up to 13.2 lbs. max drag power; wobble-reducing 90mm Swept Handle with weight-reducing cutouts; and custom I-shaped Soft Touch knobs. In addition, each Tatula SV TW baitcaster is equipped with an anodized, color-coded ID plate that allows you to instantly identify each of the 3 versions by its retrieve ratio.

fantastic qualityI own 2. Frankly, if a reel has Magforce Z braking it's a winner! Everyone seems to be hung up on distance with today's equipment. As for me, I want to hit my target accurately, and I DON'T WANT ANY BACKLASHES. The Tatula, in all its forms has satisfied both of these criteria. These reels, Ct, Ct Type R, SV TW, Zillion and the new Fuego have improved all facets of my fishing. Frankly, I don't really see much difference between any of the above. The only difference between between them is, if I'm using a "NON" T WING reel, I throw Trilene #14 XL...otherwise, I'm using Trilene #14 Flurocarbon. I really think it's line flexibility rather than the T Wing that makes the difference.
Whatever you do, stay away from the CG80. They are lying about the bearing count, and the magnetic brake. They are calling it Magforce Z, but is is NOT. They give a bearing count of 10 (I think), They use the term "10 Ball Bearings" but in reality, there are 6 bearings, and 4 Bushings. If you must have a red compact reel, go buy the "Cadense", (Chinese)...IT'S THE EXACT SAME REEL, only it costs $34
instead of $99.
Lastly, you can't get better quality in a casting reel than the Diawa Tatula. I love and use them ALL!

Best ValueI have the 8.1 gear ratio filled with 30lbs test Power Pro tied to 16-20lbs Yo-Zuri Top Knot for bottom contact fishing. The T-Wing system allows for connection knots between braid to fluorocarbon to pass without a hitch. Because of this, I am able to use longer leaders for better abrasion resistance when dragging and bouncing jigs in and around rocky structure. The SV version feels more refined compared to the standard CT version. It is a breeze to cast and the retrieve is smooth as glass. I've fished it side by side with my Shimano Bantams and Metanium DC and I think it feels almost as good as these reels. For the price point, you simply can't beat the value this reel offers.

Amazing reel, smooth, and backlash freeGreat feeling reel. I was surprised at how well the SV spool worked in preventing backlashes. I've fished with the regular tatulas and would sometimes get backlashes when bombing casts, but not with the SV.

Worth every pennyIf you are looking to set up a new rod, this reel will not disappoint! I lined it up 50lb test and set it up for flipping. Effortlessly and accurately flipping on targets at 25yds. Once you adjust it for the lure weight you will not have any problems with backlash. As for casting, a country mile without any problems and one of the smoothest retrieves I have ever felt on a reel.

Sweet reel.Very good reel. The SV brakes provide great control. I also own a Tatula CT and honestly between the two reels I think the CT gets bit more distance, the SV feels be restricted on the cast at times. It still slings a weightless stick worm mile though, very accurate reel. As with all Daiwa reels the brakes are a breeze to dial in, super smooth too. Feels bit more refined over CT model. Cannot go wrong with this reel, stupid easy to set up. As with all Tatulas the front is bit wide, not uncomfortable, but not as comfy for wrapping a finger around front. Otherwise nothing really bad to say about it. Buy it :)

Not Bad, Not GreatDue to Lews limited selection for lefties I was forced to look elsewhere. Some of the reviews I've read make this reel out to be the best reel ever made in this price range. While it is a nice reel with some special features (sv spool) I'm disappointed in the casting distance. It will cast any lure without backlash but I think the sv spool limits distance. I'm someone who likes to be able to bomb baits and this is just average at best when it comes to casting distance. Great for skipping and super smooth on the retrieve. If I paid full price I'd return it and try out a shimano.

Terrible reel. not worth $200.I bought this and a Shimano Curado 200HG. The Curado cast effortlessly, time after time. But spent most of my time while using the Diawa clearing out backlash. Don't Waste your money on the Diawa Tatula. Buy a Shimano Curado 200 HG.
You won't be sorry.
