Daiwa Sealine SG17LC3BI have seven of these reels in my boat. They are used for trolling for landlocked salmon and trout using 8 lb line. When they are working, there is nothing better. Unfortunately, they are rarely all working. I average having to fix 3 of them every year. The problems include line counter freeze-up and broken bail release. Getting them fixed involves driving 70 miles to an authorized dealer in Sacramento, followed by a two week wait for repair. I have decided to stop getting them fixed and will replace them when they break with another brand.

Poor QualityI've used the Diawa Sealine for over 15 years. In the past three years I have purchased 6. 3 of the six have had the gears freeze. I primarily fish for walleye so there isn't undo stress on the reel. I have now switched to Tekata's.

Smooth and ReliableI own 6 of these in 3 different sizes. They are simple to use, operate smoothly and are very reliable.
Also when salmon fishing in a crowded area a line counter reel is a must have. After it makes a couple of runs a line counter is the only way of knowing how close you fish is to neighboring boats. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Awesome reelI have bee using Daiwa SG47LCA reels for the last 10 years on Lake Ontario, These reels have landed a lot of kings!!
Never a single problem with these reels, I just do a minimum regular maintenance every couple of years.
Best reels for the money !!
The new ones look nice with extra bearings etc but I find no reason to replace the old ones since they work just as good as new after 10 years of hard use.

Best reel for the moneyI've fished these reels for years and only ever had one linecounter out of 10 to go bad...... I troll for freshwater stripers, hybrids and trout with these reels. I contemplated buy a more expensive linecounter reel but couldn't justify it being that these reels have worked so well for me.
