The Colt® 1991 Government Model Semi-Auto Pistol is a direct takeoff of the standard-issue .45 caliber M1911 sidearm originally manufactured by Colt, and used by the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. The 1991 Series has many of the original features as the M1911, including a spur hammer, flat main spring housing, a long trigger, and a standard grip safety and thumb safety. The standard spur hammer with the original grip safety allows the shooter better access for cocking the pistol by reaching up with the thumb, in comparison to newer enhanced beavertail grip safeties with shorter hammer spurs. Upgrades to the 1991 include tighter manufacturing tolerances, a lowered ejection port, and high-profile white-dot sights. The carbon steel slide and frame feature a traditional blued finish. Diamond checkered rosewood grip panels enhance the beauty and nostalgic feel of the weapon, as well as offer a secure grip without aggressively sharp edges. The M1911 pistol has proven itself in battle to be a rugged and reliable sidearm for self-defense, and the Colt Government Model 1991 Semi-Auto Pistol is its direct descendant.
