35 miles? These (a pair) are good for around town up to around 12 blocks (3/4 mile). The most I ever got was 2 miles and that was across water from boat to boat. I don't know how they get the ratings they do but 35 miles is a stretch! To be fair, there isn't a line-of-sight radio out there that will go more than 5 miles, no matter what the brand. I'm still ok with these radio's, though, as I just needed them to communicate within a one mile radius but that one mile has to be without obstacles such as hills and tall buildings. These will work for sure for 1/2 mile in cities and two miles over water.
