Great organization and bladder size. This bag holds everything I need for a day on the trails riding a mountain bike. It would be great for day hikes also and big enough for some gear and a light lunch. Additional storage on the outside of the bag allows for a jacket to be stored for easy access.

Spare hiker from
Tô smallI bought for my son at Boyscout store in 2017. Perfect for daypack, roomy and even can strap a rolled pad for sleeping bag.
This new model is far below to compare the old model. It is packed, compressed. Not enough room and no strap underneath.
The reservoir's lid doesn't have the lookalike-claws to help keep the bladder's opening standup to dry. Disappointed

A far cry from the original muleNot at all happy with this. Just purchased 3 weeks ago and not at all impressed. I’ve used the original mule for 15 years (loved it) and wanted a new one and this has fallen way short of expectations. The “ergonomic” bladder is a huge step back from the quarter turn lock bladder. Very hard to screw on and get a good seal. In fact, I got it stuck and broke the cap trying to remove it. It also won’t allow you to fill the bladder full as they’ve reduced the size of the pack so much that it forces the water back to the top, and there’s no way to hold the bladder in place like the previous mule. The pack rides up too high on your back and makes it uncomfortable. I would absolutely not recommend purchasing this pack.

Not as good as my old MuleBought this to replace my heavily used and fading Camelbak that I LOVED! Not a fan of the color but I dont buy packs for fashion. As a few others mentioned, had trouble with the bladder leaking from the lid. You have to be VERY CAREFUL to get the lid seated perfectly so you dont get drenched on the trail(or lose it all on the way to the trail)! I've now mastered this feat, but wish it were easier.
REALLY dont like the new clasp design on the straps! First time I used it, I pushed it in and it didnt get seated just right so it didnt hold and came open. Have had trouble with it EVERY time I try to use it since. Love the old style and don't see ANY benefit to the new one. Too flimsy and easy to break/bend.
The new bladder style is not easy to get in/out of the pack. It hardly fits (too tight) even when the pack is empty, never mind when Its full! Can't figure why it has the 2 compartments or how to put it into the pack area that has a rigid tunnel for improved air flow thru the back. Do they mesh together somehow???
All that being said, this is a durable, moderately large capacity bike/ hiking pack that holds a ton of stuff. And that's what really counts. If there weren't so MANY little issues, I'd rate this a lot higher. Still choking on the price, but I believe you (usually) get what you pay for.

It used to be mine....I bought this pack for myself a couple years ago. My wife liked it so she kept it.
She doesn't use it as often as I would but since I carry everything, I got myself the fourteener 24. The mule carries what my wife needs: water and snacks, a jacket just in case, and other small items that she could use. I do wish I should've bought it in another color since she made it hers.

Better in most ways, annoying bite valve angleThis is my third Camelbak in over a 23 year span. Each one gets better but there are compromises. I love the new Crux bladder fill system but absolutely hate the new 45 degree bite valve angle. The old 90 degree system was substantially easier to use while riding. Sure the new one flows more water but I use it less due to the awkward angle. Otherwise, it's the same high quality I have come to expect.
