Q&A
Drop brass weighted end of the BoreSnake Bore Cleaner through bore, initial floss removes loose debris. Phosphor bronze short brushes then remove hardened residue. Main floss super-cleans the bore. All in one quick movement.

.17 HMR Boresnake failI generally like Boresnakes and use them regularly with most of my firearms. However, having just purchased a .17 HMR Savage, I picked up a .17 HMR Hoppes Boresnake to go with it only to have it get stuck halfway through the barrel the first time I'd used it. It was lubricated with gun oil before I pulled it through but it stuck so firmly that the string portion broke trying to pull it out. Finally had to clamp the remaining cord portion into a vise and reefed on the rifle to dislodge it and pull it out. Boresakes seem to work well on larger calibers but this Hoppes .17 HMR product was too large for the .17 bore.

Not what I expectedRecommended by a friend so I purchased the one sized for my 300 Win Mag since that’s the rifle I shoot most often. I use the popular bore cleaning solvent recommended in the instructions and I followed the instructions. After several passes with the bore snake, I used the cleaning system I’ve used for years just for comparison and after the first pass with it, the patch looked like my rifle hadn’t been cleaned at all. Nice concept, just doesn’t meet my expectations for what I consider a clean barrel. Glad I only purchased one.

quick cleanI have several of these in different calibers. They are great for a temporary cleaning after a few shots, or to help you get through the day in a prairie dog town. After 100 rounds or so, I still like to do the solvent, brush, and cleaning patch routine. I have never used these with solvent.

is the BoreSnake washable?
For example, how do you clean the boresnake when it gets dirty? do you simply throw it away after so many uses?
Asked by: mscottp
Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, the Bore Snake is washable and can be cleaned just using warm, soapy water (even dish detergent) and then hanged out to dry.
