I decided to spend the money and get the American made original fish gripper. I'm extremely satisfied with the scale and the lip gripper. It works as advertised. We can quickly grab,weigh and release fish unharmed finally. Thanks for a great product.

The fact that this tool doubles for landing catch and weighing your catch at the same time is a plus. It is very easy to use one handed and it makes landing your fish a lot safer. The price tag is a little on the steep side, but no other fish grip tool compares to this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by mdees from Do not hesitate... it is worth every penny I was hesitant to make this purchase because of the price. My coworker has had one for over a year and kept telling me it was one of the best purchases he ever made. I started out buying just the cheap gripper without a scale and I liked the way it worked (it did end up rusting). I really wanted a way to weigh my fish. Well I finally bit the bullet and bought a boga 30lb and it has lived up to its reputation. I have owned it for almost 1 full year now and let me tell you, this thing is awesome. I use the boga primarily on redfish. It is hard to think that you can land a fish, remove it from the net, remove the hook from the fish, and release the fish without ever actually touching the fish. I have landed many red snapper, cobia, bonita, and kings with it as well. The largest being a 40 plus pound cobia (maxed out the 30lb scale). I wash it off when I get home ALMOST every time.. but i have forgot to before. It has been fully submerged in saltwater and there is not one hint of rust anywhere on the tool. I fished the Alabama deep sea rodeo and weighed in 3 different fish. I was able to estimate the weight within one tenth of a pound on all 3 fish. A 4lb redfish, 12lb bonita, and a 27lb cobia. I was really blown away with the accuracy considering it only gives you half pound incriments. My buddy really liked my boga but didnt want to spend that much money on one so he bought a 60lb gorilla gripper. His was 3lb off on the cobia and dropped the fish twice. The actual grip to the handle slid off, and as of now his scale will not read anything under 5lb. The boga is made in the USA of USA materials. You cant beat that. It is invaluable in landing large or dangerous fish especially in situations where you can't use a net. Great tool for minimizing handling fish for release or pictures. Scale very accurate. You must use wrist lanyard or a float or eventually you will loose it (they sink very quick). Easy to clean and will last a lifetime if properly cared for. Cheaper knock offs are not the same. The only strike I have against is the scale is only on one side so you constantly have to spin the shaft to read, and numbers are very small so wear your glasses.

Is it water proof?

If I drop it in the water, is it ruined? I wade when I fish most of the time.

Its not waterproof but can be submerged. Soak in fresh water after use in saltwater and hang to dry. If you get sand in it, take it apart to clean. Keep it on a lanyard that is secured to your waders or vest so you don't loose it

Which one to get ,15 lb or 30 lb.

I mostly wade fish in the Texas bays and I like to pack light and although most of the trout and reds I catch are less than 10 lbs you never know when you might get lucky with an over size red or even a tarpon .

At low weights is there any change in accuracy between the 30 and 15 lb units

I have the 30lb and it is accurate within one tenth of a pound throughout the entire range. I weighed in 3 fish at the ADSFR. A 4lb redfish, 12lb bonita, and a 27lb cobia. I estimated all weights within one tenth of a pound. Which is impressive considering it only gives you one half pound incriments.

I want to purchase a boga grip from BassPro...how can I be assured that it is IFGA certified?

It is not IFGA certified.... you can send it in a pay to have certified. Like you would have to do with any other scale. It will pass without a doubt. I weighed in 3 fish at the ADSFR.
