faulty hardwarerecently bought the stainless version. Install was ok until I tried to tight the included bolts ( nylon lined locked nut), the nut bound up right at the upper lip. I couldn't get it past the top of the nut. I tried to take it off and "no go" . Tried with at 20" inch breaker bar, still no go. I had to hacksaw the bolt off and use a stainless bolt I luckily had in tool box. Poor quality control.

Mounting boltsNuts and bolts would not thread together. Had to make a trip to the local hardware. You would think that the supplier would check the mounting bolts they supply

Still going StrongThis is my second review of this product. I bought a pair of stainless BoatBuckle transom tie downs in 2010. After 7 years of use in saltwater they still work great. I will always have a pair for any boat I own. Great Product!

A good rule of the thumb is to cover the weight of your boat with the total combined strength of all of your tie downs, bow, gunwale, transom, and winch strap.

When choosing tie-down straps like the BoatBuckle Retractable Tie-Down Strap you will want to keep a few things in mind. Boat tie-downs are designed for normal highway driving. The purpose of most boat tie-downs is to strap the lightest object to the heaviest object, meaning you will want to choose a tie-down with a break strength that exceeds the weight of the lightest object.
For example, if your boat weighs 4,000 lbs and your trailer weighs 2,000 lbs, you will want to choose a tie-down strap with a break strength that exceeds the weight of the trailer. This ensures that the boat does not jump off of the trailer if you run over bumps or potholes. You could always go with straps that have greater break strengths, but if you are in a severe accident, very few straps could handle the forces that are created when the boat tries to leave the trailer, especially with bigger and heavier boats.

Thank you for your inquiry. This installs to your boat trailer with a bolt, nut and washer. Then the strap just retracts back into the crank when not in use.
