Betts Bass Bug and Poka-Pop PoppersI have been using Betts poppers, both Bass Bug and Poka-Pop, for over 40 years, mainly wading in tennis shoes and shorts river fishing for smallmouth and sunfish with a 7-8' fly rod. Without Betts poppers, I wouldn't bother.
Over the years, I have caught at least a dozen trophy smallmouth in a clear river not known for producing trophy fish, always using either a Betts Bass Pop or a Poka-Pop, and almost invariably in mid-afternoon during the hottest part of the day. In other locations, as long as the water is clear, they're great for largemouth, too.
In my view, Betts poppers are simply the best and most reliable top-water baits on the market. They are as durable as a cork popper is going to be, well-painted, they have the all-important rubber legs, they move properly on top of the water, and they catch fish. Very highly recommended.

LARGE POPPERSPoppers look like the size of a nickel on line. They are a bit larger than quarters and the big bass cannot resist!
There is nothing like a smallie on the fly.

Hook up floatersSo far so good. The cool thing is that they float hook up. I fished for three hours in a very weedy pond and they seldom snagged.

Super Bass BugsBett's bugs were just the thing for big bass last week, The big bugs attracted many strikes and of course smaller fish were not to be seen. The bugs were easy to pop attract the fish. Good luck to all that try.

Fun!gotta love these poppers, tie em on and cast around structure like lillies and youl be catchin bass all day, great to have in your fly presentation and always exhilirating to see a fish nail your topwater.
Thanks for your question. Flies are traditionally listed by hook size, and that's how Betts is marketing the Bass Bug Popper Kit. Both sizes available (1 and 1/0) are appropriate for largemouth and smallmouth bass, with the 1/0 being the larger of the two.

Will these work ok on a 5 wt rod?
I'm going up to Ontario this summer to catch some small mouth bass on a lake and I only have a 5 wt rod. Im new to fly fishing for bass and could use some tips and recommendations.
