Trout KillerThese work really well, I find that they are easier to rig than the dough, although I've still had instances where they will come off too easily so I tend to use a #12 or #14 treble hook when fishing with these. Make sure you mold them into a ball onto your hook, I never just place them on the hook as the cubes they come as.
I did have one instance where the nuggets in my jar became very hard when I went to use them again in the winter (after purchasing in the spring). Perhaps I didn't seal that jar well but they become unusable if not stored correctly and harden.
As for colors, I think the popular stuff works best - rainbow, chartreuse, orange, etc. I did also buy Captain America to have something "different" than what the stocked trout might see here locally but I've had zero success with it, so I suggest to stick with the proven colors. The key is to also carry a few different colors since the trout may like one color a lot more than another on any particular day. I usually fish with 2 rods, rigged identically, but with differing colors to see which is catching best on the day.

Good optionWhen winter comes and the local ponds get stocked with rainbow trout, this is one of my top two options to use, particularly bright pink & orange colors. Some times I mix them with small marshmallows, depending on the buoyancy I'm trying to achieve, since sometimes I want to be closer to the bottom than others, since I make the lead drag at the bottom and have this float a bit over the bottom while I reel very slowly, it helps me cover water, rather than just letting it sin on a bobber in the pond.
I've had good results, although the salmon egg prom Power Bait sometimes give me better results.

Berkley PowerbaitI do a lot of trout fishing at Lake Eucumbene in the Snowy Mountains area, Australia.
I have never not caught trout using Berkley's powerbait, in the rainbow and captain america colour.
Size 12 hook, 1 yard of 6lb mono leader after a swivel and a small sinker to cast, and you will be laughing.

Power NuggetsWhen fishing for trout, these power nuggets are hard to beat. They seem to catch trout even when worms won't. Alway keep a few jars of these in you tackle box and you won't get skunked.
