Rated 5 out of 5 by Attwanl from I’d almost given up If it weren’t for this carbonlite 2.0 rod and reel combo, I was about to give up on a baitcast reel. I’ve had it for few months now and I couldn’t be happier with this set up. I just couldn’t get the other reels set were I wasn’t worried more about casting and bird nesting than fishing. There were very few trips that I didn’t put down the baitcaster and pick back up my spinning rod. I was told ..... it’s not the right rod .... no it’s the reel.... it’s my line, it was me. So I talked to the boys at BPS...was recommended this combo ..it was a really good set up and didn’t break the bank, plus it was on sale. I have the lefty 6.8 ratio with a 6’6” medium rod, and I am casting weightless worms with out a problem. I switch to crank baits then top water , with the 6.8, I can pull buzz baits too. The rod has a great feel to it too,it is sensitive enough I can bounce a worm off the bottom and feel all obstacles down there, yet has enough back bone to set the hook This rig is so versatile I don’t need another setup. Plus my accuracy is greatly improved not having to worry about backlashes. I’m back to enjoying fishing without the frustrations.

However, 3 months later the 6th guide (from bottom going to top) broke without reason. I'm now down a rod for a state qualifying tournament. This was most upsetting, but life goes on regardless.

I own the platinum and titanium BPS lineup and I prefer these combos. I use them for chatterbaits, spinnerbaits and skipping a jig. I have had zero issues and I fish tournaments and a few days a week. Great deal and a truly outperformed everything else I have.

Bought 2 of these combo's in 7' MH when they were on sale for $119.00 during the spring sale. Well I've found plenty of use for them and now keep several bait casting setups of various costs and brands in my rod locker and this is my hands down favorite. Super light, easy to cast, killer drag and just feels good, it's fun to fish with and I can bomb a whopper plopper a mile... the only thing I can fault is that the white rod turns yellow after a season in the sun, other than that, you can't beat this set up for the money... go ahead and try, I did....

I’m very happy with this light weight, very smooth feel. Reel is smooth and performs well with a high quality line. I plan on adding a third (Heavy) very soon.

I didn't really need another rod and reel, like most fishermen, but I thought, what the heck. I generally buy more expensive gear. My average setup probably runs around $300 for a rod and reel. I think I paid around $150 for this combo...can't remember. But this setup is GREAT. I was surprised to say the least. I have since purchased 2 more. The split rubber grip is more comfortable than cork, the setup is super lightweight, and it's just easy to throw and crank and throw and crank. I use them for spinnerbaits and crankbaits. They're perfect for fast baits.

Is this combo set saltwater suitable?

Hi, the Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris CarbonLite 2.0 Baitcast Rod and Reel Combo is made for freshwater fishing. Technically speaking, you can use a freshwater rod to fish for anything you like, in any water you like. If you do use for saltwater make sure you clean both items after each use. Rinse any reel with a gentle stream of cool, fresh water anytime you use the reel near saltwater. However, because freshwater reels generally lack the sealed bearings, gear boxes and drag systems that saltwater reels possess, damage is almost guaranteed to occur. At the end of the day, the biggest difference between the two types of reels boils down to corrosion resistance – saltwater reels are simply built to withstand the indignities saltwater imposes better than freshwater reels. The 7’3” H would be a good rod for heavy cover flipping, 7.5 reel would pair well, 7.6 would be probably be a bit better.

There are rod actions for a wide variety of techniques. Pick a rod with a Heavy Power for flipping in dense cover. 7’3” and 7’6” would be the top choices.

What is the dial on the bottom for

Thank you for choosing Bass Pro Shops. The dial (number) at the base of the rod is the line ID system built into the rod butt. This helps when you have multiple rods that have different lb test lines on them to note which line is on which rod.
