DurableMy father in law and I have been fishing with these Extreme reels since they were develop about 7, years ago. When the EXCS8 came out upgraded we were even more impressed. This Reel is perfect for Crappie ( Sac a Lait) small bass and perch jerking. We like how easy the are to clean and string up. We are still using most of the same reels goind on 5-7 old, still performing good. Love the price and service, keep making producrts like this Bass Pro.

Great Spincast reelI bye this for my wife and she love's it! It cast much better than the Zebco 33 and last much longer. I haven't figured out how to disassemble it yet so I just put a few drops of oil in the lube port and let her go. It last a couple years before she has an issue usually. We spool about 100 yds of 12 lb test on it. Anything bigger and it doesn't do well. No more or it won't cast good. Once casting becomes difficult change the line. The star drag is REALLY nice! She has caught some nice size drum and gar on it along with bass, and Sacalait. Most of the time she fishes a Beatle spin and it will cast it a good 25 to 30 yards easily. Very very nice reel if you fish spin casters.

A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGHI own 4 because it is the ONLY spin cast I have found with 1) Multi disc Star Drag, 2) Power handle, 3) higher retrieve ratio than all others, 4) Small compact design (no Zebco bulk here!), 5) metal gears, 6) a One Way clutch (despite other review stated erroneously otherwise) and more importantly ...ALL IN ONE REEL AT SAME TIME...AND ....It is owner rebuildable. Going on 4 years of heavy salt water surf fishing and all 4 still with me. Yes, I had some issues, but after overhaul, they always return to like new performance. I had to replace some of the cheap parts that can break, but hey,,,the parts are dirt cheap cost wise. I replaced all bearings with expensive BOCA's. Assembly is complicated and YES I have found them assembled incorrectly out the box new! (exlalins why some had early fails)! The thumb release needs to be made of metal...the plastic one breaks (replaced 2 of the 4). You can keep all your bulky Zebcos, Diawas, Garcias and Pfluegers...I will keep my half priced compact lightweight Extremes!....all sizes are compact and lightweight!

Great reel for novice guest anglersNot sure why this reel is not getting good reviews. I like it for inexperienced anglers. Fast retrieve. Even allows for pitching or flipping.

No idea why reviews are negativeI am having good luck with my reel so far. The thumb button is a little lower than some other reels I’ve used but am getting used to that. I mean, come on...this reel has a star drag system and power handle crank. It casts great and rolls in smooth. I have fished some fairly thick cover and had no problems hossing fish thru weeds to get them on the bank. I have been very impressed and would recommend this reel to anyone

Spincast reelsFished in Minnesota for two weeks and never had a birdsnest with line.Had two reels when normally have 4 poles. Best reels for the money.

Poor DesignI bought 5 of these reels for my family. They are junk. The line doesn't spool up properly when you reel it in and the next cast it will hang up. Very frustrating.

Good spincast for the price,but has a design flawI own three of these and two of the older version.Two of the last three had a problem that was very frustrating.It caused me to loose several lures.Inside the reel there is a soft plastic ring that when the thumb lever is pressed it moves forward against the reel cover acting as a brake until the lever is released during casting.This ring or cap has a seam in it that the line catches in often breaking the line when this happens resulting in lost lures.Followed by much profanity.I bought these last three reels on sale.So I didn't return them because I didn't think the time and shipping cost was worth my trouble.I did take the reels apart shaved this problem down, But the line slips if braking takes place at this point.I don't lose any more lures because of this.I am only writing this review so maybe the design can be changed to fix this problem.These reels are not expensive but my lures are!!!
Can i use this reel on an ultra light rod and use 2lb test line?

Thank you for your inquiry. This reel is not rated for braid, so it is not advised to run braid through it. Monofilament and fluorocarbon should work fine, however.

Yes, the mid range reel I bought comes spooled with 10lb. Excel clear. Performed well with that line which is a strong & soft subtle line.
